Overview#

Inspirations is designed to add small, vanilla-style features to Minecraft without fundamentally altering the game's core loop. The mod is divided into five main modules: Building, Recipes, Tools, Utility, and Tweaks. Each feature is fully configurable, allowing players to enable or disable specific components to suit their playstyle.

The mod focuses on adding depth to existing mechanics, such as making bookshelves functional storage units and expanding the cauldron's utility beyond simple water storage. It also introduces new decorative blocks and survival tools that feel right at home in the base game.

Building Module#

The Building Module adds a variety of decorative and functional blocks to enhance base construction.

Bookshelves

Unlike vanilla bookshelves, Inspirations bookshelves are functional storage blocks with 14 slots for books. They can be crafted from any wood type (Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak, etc.) and come in four visual variants:

  • Default: Randomly sized books that take the color of the stored book.
  • Rainbow: Books appear in a fixed red-to-purple color order.
  • Tomes: Uniform, brown books for a professional library look.
  • Ancient: Brown and tan books with an adventuring aesthetic.

Enchanting Power: Bookshelves provide enchanting power to an Enchantment Table based on the number of books stored. A full shelf provides 1.5x the power of a vanilla shelf, while a shelf full of enchanted books provides 2.5x power.

Decorative Blocks

  • Enlightened Bushes: Crafted from leaves and glowstone, these bushes emit light. Available in White, Red, Green, Blue, Rainbow, and Christmas variants.
  • Glass Doors & Trapdoors: Transparent versions of standard doors and trapdoors. They require Silk Touch to be picked up once placed.
  • Mulch: A gravity-affected block (like sand) available in 8 colors. Most plants can be placed on it, making it ideal for garden paths.
  • Paths: Decorative, carpet-like blocks that sit slightly above the ground. Variants include Cobble, Round (Stone), Tiles (Stone Brick), and Bricks.
  • Ropes & Chains: Climbable blocks that can hang from the underside of solid blocks. Ropes and Vines can be turned into ladders by right-clicking with sticks; Chains can be turned into metal ladders with iron nuggets.

Small Flowers

Inspirations adds smaller versions of 2-high vanilla flowers, obtained by using shears on the bottom half of a tall flower:

  • Syringa: From Lilacs.
  • Peonia: From Peonies.
  • Rose: From Rose Bushes.
  • Cyan Flower: Created by placing a Rose in a cauldron with cyan-dyed water.

Recipes Module#

This module introduces new crafting methods, primarily focusing on the Cauldron and Anvil.

Cauldron Upgrades

The Cauldron is significantly expanded with new fluid handling and crafting capabilities. It can hold 3 to 4 levels of fluid depending on the version.

Feature Description
Brewing Right-click a cauldron over fire with ingredients to brew potions instantly.
Dyeing Add dyes to water to change its color. Mix colors to create custom shades for leather armor.
Stews Craft Mushroom, Rabbit, Beetroot, or Potato soup by adding ingredients to a boiling cauldron.
Suspicious Stew Add flowers to Mushroom Stew in a cauldron to create Suspicious Stew.
Tipped Arrows Dip arrows into a potion-filled cauldron to create Tipped Arrows.
Milk Cauldrons Can hold milk, which can be bottled or used as a base for Mushroom Soup.

Anvil Smashing

Falling anvils now interact with the blocks they land on, transforming them into different materials.

Input Block Resulting Block
Stone Cobblestone
Cobblestone Gravel
Gravel Sand
Sandstone Sand
Polished Stone Normal Stone
Concrete Concrete Powder
Glass (Breaks/Disappears)

Tools Module#

The Tools Module adds specialized items to assist in survival and navigation.

  • Barometer: A handheld tool that displays the player's current Y-level (altitude).
  • Photometer: Measures light levels. When held, it shows the light level of the block the player is looking at. The display turns red if the light level is low enough for hostile mobs to spawn.
  • Beacon Compass: Can be linked to an active Beacon by right-clicking it. Once linked, the compass always points toward that specific beacon, even across dimensions.
  • North Compass: A simple compass that always points to North (0,0) rather than the world spawn.
  • Charged Arrow: A redstone-integrated arrow that emits a short redstone pulse upon hitting a block. The arrow is consumed on use.

Utility Module#

Utility blocks provide new ways to automate and interact with the world.

  • The Collector: A block that pulls items from an inventory or the world in front of it when it receives a redstone pulse. It functions like a directional hopper but can pick up dropped items.
  • Pipes: A cheaper alternative to hoppers. Pipes can transport items in a specific direction but cannot extract items from inventories on their own.
  • Redstone Charger: A tool similar to Flint and Steel that provides a quick redstone pulse to the block it is used on.
  • Torch Lever: A decorative redstone torch that acts as a hidden lever. Right-clicking it toggles a redstone signal.
  • Redstone Barrel: A storage block for redstone dust. It can hold up to 15 pieces and emits a comparator signal based on the amount of dust inside. Unlike cauldrons, it can be moved by pistons.
  • Carpeted Trapdoor: A trapdoor with a carpet texture on top, allowing it to blend perfectly into carpeted floors for hidden entrances.

Tweaks Module#

The Tweaks Module contains small quality-of-life changes to vanilla mechanics.

  • Carpets on Stairs: Carpets can now be placed on stairs and slabs, wrapping around the geometry for a seamless look.
  • Heartbeat: A visual and auditory heartbeat effect occurs when the player is at low health.
  • Better Leaves: Leaves have a more detailed, bushy appearance (configurable).
  • Shearing Melons: Breaking a melon block with shears will always drop 9 melon slices.
  • Shearing Vines: Breaking the top of a vine chain with shears will harvest the entire chain of vines below it.
  • Desaddling Pigs: Players can remove saddles from pigs by shift-right-clicking with an empty hand.
  • Flower Pot Comparators: Flower pots now provide a redstone signal to comparators based on the type of flower they contain.
  • Enchanted Book Ribbons: Enchanted books in the inventory display colored ribbons based on the rarity of their enchantments.
