Overview#

Blue Skies (mod id blue_skies) is a large dimension and adventure mod. It adds two brand-new explorable dimensions:

  • The Everbright - a bright, snowy, cold realm with pale blue-leaved trees, frost-covered terrain, and turquoise crystals.
  • The Everdawn - a darker, warm realm with reddish-pink foliage under a deep orange sky.

Each dimension is a full world of its own with its own biomes, blocks, wood types, plants, ores and gems, dozens of new mobs, powerful bosses, and large multiblock dungeons to raid. You progress by gathering each dimension's materials, crafting new armor, weapons and tools, and fighting your way deeper through its biomes, dungeons and bosses.

Blue Skies requires the Structure Gel API library, which provides the portal framework and structure systems it is built on. Install Structure Gel alongside Blue Skies.

Getting Started - Building the Portal#

Both dimensions are reached through a Blue Skies portal.

  1. Build a portal frame. Assemble a rectangular frame from the mod's portal blocks (similar in shape to a Nether portal frame), standing on the ground with a hollow interior.
  2. Light it with the Zeal Lighter. Instead of flint and steel, you craft and use the Zeal Lighter to ignite the frame. The interior fills with a swirling teal portal.
  3. Step through. Entering the portal carries you into one of the two dimensions. The portal links back to the Overworld the same way a Nether portal does, so you can return the way you came.

Gather early materials in the Overworld to craft the portal parts and the Zeal Lighter before you make the trip.

The Two Dimensions#

The Everbright is bright, snowy, and cold. Expect pale blue foliage, frosted stone terrain, turquoise crystal blocks, flat-topped frost trees, and its own set of passive and hostile mobs. It is the "light" side of the mod.

The Everdawn is darker and warm. It has reddish and pink vegetation, an orange sky, and a different roster of blocks, plants and creatures. It is the "dark" side of the mod.

Each dimension has:

  • Its own biomes and terrain generated by the mod.
  • New wood types, plants, flowers and building blocks to harvest and build with.
  • Ores and gems unique to that realm.
  • New mobs - animals to encounter and hostile creatures to fight.
  • Bosses and dungeons to work toward.

Gear and Progression#

Progression in Blue Skies is built around the two dimensions and the materials you find there.

  • Mine the dimension's ores and gather its gems - materials such as Horizonite, Aquite, Charoite and others are used to make the mod's gear.
  • Craft new armor, weapons and tools from those materials. The gear is stronger than basic Overworld equipment and is what lets you survive deeper exploration.
  • Use that gear to push further - explore more dangerous biomes, clear dungeons, and take on the dimension bosses.
  • Progress through one dimension, then take on the other, upgrading your equipment as you find better materials.

Bosses and Dungeons#

Each dimension contains large multiblock dungeons and powerful bosses.

  • Dungeons are big generated structures - blue-brick fortresses and other buildings - filled with rooms, hazards and loot to raid. Come prepared with good gear and supplies.
  • Bosses are major fights with their own name and health bar. Examples include the Starlit Crusher (a heavy stone-golem-like boss of the Everbright) and the Alchemist. Defeating a boss is a milestone in that dimension's progression and rewards you for the gear and preparation you brought.

Explore to find the dungeons, fight through them, and challenge the boss at the end.

Tips and FAQ#

How do I get to the dimensions? Build the portal frame from the mod's portal blocks and light it with the Zeal Lighter (not flint and steel). Step through the teal portal to travel.

What is the difference between the Everbright and the Everdawn? The Everbright is bright, snowy and cold; the Everdawn is darker and warm. Each has its own biomes, blocks, mobs, gear materials, bosses and dungeons.

What should I craft first? Gather the dimension's ores and gems (Horizonite, Aquite, Charoite and more) and craft armor, weapons and tools from them before taking on dungeons and bosses.

Are there bosses? Yes - each dimension has powerful bosses such as the Starlit Crusher and the Alchemist, found through exploration and dungeons.

Does Blue Skies need anything else installed? Yes - it requires the Structure Gel API library, which provides the portal framework and structure systems it is built on. Install Structure Gel alongside Blue Skies.
