Overview#
Ice and Fire is a comprehensive overhaul mod created by Alexthe666 and Raptorfarian. It aims to bring the wonder and terror of legendary creatures to Minecraft, primarily focusing on Dragons. The mod introduces three distinct types of dragons—Fire, Ice, and Lightning—alongside a vast array of other mythological entities like Gorgons, Cyclopes, and Pixies. Players can hunt these beasts for rare materials, tame them to rule the skies, and craft some of the most powerful equipment available in the game.

Dragons#
Dragons are the core of the mod. They are divided into three elements, each with unique habitats, breath attacks, and color variations.
Dragon Types
| Type | Breath Attack | Habitat | Colors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire Dragon | Fire Breath | Warm Biomes (Plains, Deserts) | Red, Bronze, Emerald, Gray |
| Ice Dragon | Frost Breath | Cold Biomes (Snowy Tundra, Glaciers) | Blue, White, Sapphire, Silver |
| Lightning Dragon | Lightning Breath | Savannas, Jungles, Badlands | Electric, Amethyst, Copper, Black |
Dragon Stages
Dragons grow through five distinct stages of life. Their size, health, and attack power increase significantly with each stage.
- Stage 1-2: Small, vulnerable, and found primarily in surface roosts.
- Stage 3: Medium-sized; capable of being ridden once tamed.
- Stage 4-5: Massive beasts found only in underground caverns. Only Stage 4 or 5 females drop Dragon Eggs.
Dragon Stats (Stage 5)
- Health: 500 - 800 HP
- Attack Damage: 20 - 30 (Bite/Claw)
- Drops: Dragon Scales, Dragon Bones, Dragon Heart, Dragon Flesh, Dragon Blood, Dragon Skull.
Dragon Taming and Care#
To obtain a tamed dragon, a player must find a Stage 4 or 5 female dragon in an underground cavern, defeat it, and collect the egg it drops.
Hatching Eggs
- Fire Egg: Must be placed in the center of a fire. It will hatch when the fire burns out or after a set duration.
- Ice Egg: Must be placed in water that is surrounded by ice blocks. The water must freeze for the egg to hatch.
- Lightning Egg: Must be placed in the rain or during a thunderstorm.
Taming Mechanics
Once hatched, the baby dragon will recognize the player who is nearby as its owner. Tamed dragons can be commanded using a Dragon Staff to stay, wander, or follow.
- Feeding: Dragons eat meat (raw or cooked). To heal them, use Dragon Meal (crafted from bones and meat).
- Growth: Dragons grow naturally over time, but their growth can be accelerated using Dragon Meal or halted using Sickly Dragon Meal.
- Equipment: Tamed dragons can be equipped with Dragon Armor (Iron, Gold, Diamond, or Dragonsteel) and a Dragon Saddle for riding.
Other Mythical Creatures#
Beyond dragons, the world is inhabited by various legendary beings categorized by their temperament.
Hostile Mobs
| Mob | Description | Location | Notable Drops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cyclops | Giant one-eyed beasts that can grab and eat players. | Cyclops Coves | Sheep Skins |
| Gorgon | Snake-haired hags that turn creatures to stone with a gaze. | Gorgon Temples | Gorgon Head |
| Siren | Beautiful creatures that lure sailors to their deaths. | Ocean Rocks | Shiny Scales |
| Death Worm | Giant worms that burrow through sand. | Deserts | Death Worm Chitin |
| Stymphalian Bird | Metallic-feathered birds that hunt in flocks. | Swamps | Stymphalian Bird Feather |
| Hydra | Multi-headed serpents that regrow heads unless cauterized. | Swamps | Hydra Heart |
| Sea Serpent | Massive aquatic predators. | Oceans | Sea Serpent Scales |

Neutral and Passive Mobs
- Hippogryph: Half-eagle, half-horse. Can be tamed with Rabbit Feet and used as a flying mount.
- Hippocampus: Half-horse, half-fish. Tameable with Kelp for fast underwater travel.
- Pixie: Small flying humanoids found in Pixie Villages. They can be caught in jars and provide various buffs.
- Amphithere: Feathered serpents found in Jungles. They can be tamed by riding them until they submit.
Structures#
The mod adds several unique structures where players can find rare loot and bosses.
- Dragon Roosts: Surface-level nests containing a Stage 1-3 dragon and small piles of gold/silver.
- Dragon Caverns: Massive underground spheres filled with treasure and a sleeping Stage 4-5 dragon.
- Cyclops Cove: A stone hut on beaches or islands inhabited by a Cyclops and its sheep.
- Gorgon Temple: A ruined marble temple where a Gorgon resides. Filled with stone statues of previous victims.
- Myrmex Hive: Underground tunnels inhabited by insectoid Myrmex. They have a complex caste system (Workers, Soldiers, Sentinels, Royal Guard, Queen).
- Mausoleum: Found in cold biomes, these are home to the Dread Queen and her undead army.

Items and Equipment#
Dragon Bone Tools
Crafted using Dragon Bones and Wither Bone Handles. These tools have high durability and damage. If infused with Dragon Blood, they become Dragonbone Blood Tools, which have special properties (Fire deals extra damage to ice mobs, Ice freezes targets).
Dragonsteel
The ultimate material in the mod. It cannot be mined and must be forged.
- Fire Dragonsteel: Forged in a Dragon Forge using Fire Dragon Breath. Provides extreme fire resistance and damage.
- Ice Dragonsteel: Forged using Ice Dragon Breath. Freezes enemies on hit.
- Lightning Dragonsteel: Forged using Lightning Dragon Breath. Strikes enemies with lightning.
Key Utility Items
- Bestiary: A book used to record information about the creatures you encounter. Crafted with a Book and a Dragon Bone.
- Dragon Flute: Used to bring flying dragons down to the ground.
- Dragon Horn: Used to store a tamed dragon in item form for easy transport.
- Summoning Crystal: Used to teleport a tamed dragon to the player's location.
The Dragon Forge#
The Dragon Forge is a multi-block structure required to create Dragonsteel.
Components:
- Dragon Forge Core (Fire, Ice, or Lightning)
- Dragon Forge Bricks (8 blocks)
- Dragon Forge Bones (8 blocks)
- Dragon Forge Aperture (1 block)
Operation: To use the forge, place Iron Ingots and a Dragon Heart of the corresponding type inside the GUI. A tamed dragon of Stage 4 or higher must be positioned next to the Aperture. When the dragon breathes into the aperture, the forge will process the iron into Dragonsteel Ingots.
Mechanics and Configuration#
Bestiary Progression
Players unlock new pages in the Bestiary by finding Manuscripts in chests within the mod's structures. Placing a Manuscript into the Bestiary GUI will unlock a random page detailing a creature's stats, behavior, and taming methods.
Stone Statues
When a Gorgon gazes at a mob or player, they are turned into a Stone Statue. These statues are blocks that can be mined with a Silk Touch pickaxe and placed as decoration. Players can use a Gorgon Head (dropped by killing a Gorgon) to petrify other mobs manually.
Configuration
The mod is highly configurable via the ice_and_fire-common.toml file. Server owners can adjust:
- Dragon spawn rates and max health.
- Griefing settings (whether dragons can destroy blocks).
- Structure spawn frequencies.
- Blacklists for certain dimensions.
