Overview#
Mo' Creatures is a seminal mod that transforms the Minecraft world by adding a vast array of realistic, mythological, and monstrous creatures. Each mob features unique AI, animations, and interaction mechanics. Players can tame many of these creatures to serve as mounts, pets, or guardians. The mod also introduces new items, armor sets, and a custom dimension to house its most powerful inhabitants.
Key features include a sophisticated horse breeding system, the ability to ride elephants and wyverns, and the threat of block-destroying Ogres and silver-vulnerable Werewolves.
Tameable Mobs#
Taming is a core mechanic in Mo' Creatures. Most animals require a specific food item to be fed to them, followed by the application of a Medallion to name and claim them.
Horses
The horse system in Mo' Creatures is distinct from vanilla Minecraft, featuring multiple tiers and special magical variants.
| Tier | Breed Examples | Taming Method |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | White, Buckskin, Dark Brown | Feed Apple or Wheat |
| Tier 2 | Dapple Gray, Spotted | Breed Tier 1s with Pumpkin/Mushroom Stew |
| Tier 3 | Paint, Pinto | Breed Tier 2s |
| Tier 4 | Black | Breed Tier 3s |
| Special | Zebra | Tame with Pumpkin (requires Tier 4 mount) |
| Special | Zorse | Breed Zebra with Tier 4 Horse |
| Special | Nightmare | Give Zorse an Essence of Fire |
| Special | Unicorn | Give Zorse an Essence of Light |
| Special | Pegasus | Breed Unicorn and Nightmare at high altitude (Y > 150) |

Big Cats
Includes Lions, Tigers, Panthers, Leopards, and Cheetahs.
- Taming: Feed a cub raw fish. Once it grows, use a Medallion.
- Behavior: Adults are aggressive unless tamed. Tamed cats can be healed with raw porkchops.
Elephants and Mammoths
Large, powerful mounts that can carry chests or multiple passengers.
- Taming: Feed a calf a Cake or five Sugar Lumps.
- Equipment: Can be equipped with Harnesses, Garments, and Chests for storage.

- Taming: Obtain a Wyvern Egg by killing a wild Wyvern. Place the egg near a heat source (torch/fire) and wait for it to hatch. Use a Medallion on the hatchling.
- Utility: High-speed flying mounts with high health.

- Drops: Obsidian, Fireballs (Fire Ogre), Diamonds (Cave Ogre).
Werewolves
Werewolves appear as humans during the day but transform at night.
- Weakness: They are nearly invulnerable to standard weapons. Players must use Gold or Silver weapons to deal significant damage.

- Drops: The blocks they are composed of (Iron, Stone, etc.).
Passive and Neutral Mobs#
These mobs add life to the environment and provide various resources.
- Birds: Small, colorful mobs (Woodpeckers, Blue Jays, Cardinals). They can be tamed by dropping seeds near them.
- Bunnies: Can be picked up and placed on the player's head. Tamed by feeding them carrots.

The Wyvern Lair#
The Wyvern Lair is a unique dimension consisting of floating islands in a void-like sky. It is the only place where wild Wyverns spawn.
- Access: To enter, the player must use a Wyvern Portal Staff. This will spawn a portal that transports the player to the dimension.
- Environment: The islands are rich in ores but dangerous due to the high density of Wyverns and the risk of falling into the void.
- Snake Rocks: Special structures found here that contain Snake Eggs.
Mechanics and Breeding#
Breeding Animals
To breed most Mo' Creatures (like Horses or Big Cats), follow these steps:
- Ensure both animals are tamed and at full health.
- Place them in a confined area (roughly 8x8 blocks).
- Feed both animals a Pumpkin or Mushroom Stew (for horses) or Raw Fish (for cats).
- Stay away from the area for a few minutes to allow the process to complete.
Custom Spawner (CMS)
Mo' Creatures utilizes a Custom Mob Spawner system. This allows players to configure the spawn rates of every mob in the mod via the config files. You can adjust frequency, group size, and which biomes specific creatures appear in.
Pet Management
- Naming: Right-click a tamed pet with a Medallion to change its name.
- Storage: Use a Pet Amulet (Fairy, Ghost, or Sky) to store your pet in your inventory, allowing for easy transport across long distances or dimensions.
Crafting Recipes#
While many recipes follow standard Minecraft logic, several key items are unique:
- Saddle (Mo'C): 3 Leather, 2 Iron Ingots (different from vanilla saddle).
- Horse Armor: Crafted using 5 Ingots (Iron, Gold, or Diamond) in a 'U' shape.
- Shark Sword: 1 Shark Tooth, 1 Stick. Deals high damage and has high durability.
- Scorpion Sting: Obtained by killing Scorpions; used to craft poison-tipped weapons.
- Big Cat Claw: Used to craft the Claw Gauntlet, a fast-attacking melee weapon.
