Overview#

Carry On lets you pick things up and carry them in your hands - not as inventory items, but as the real block, block entity, or creature. Grab a chest and it keeps everything inside it, lift a furnace mid-smelt, scoop up a villager, a spawner, or a machine from another mod, walk it across your base, and place it back down intact.

It turns moving your base, relocating mobs, and rearranging block entities into a simple, intuitive action instead of a tedious break-and-replace chore.

Getting Started#

  1. Walk up to a carriable block, block entity, or mob and use the pick-up control (see How to Pick Up / Place).
  2. Your character now visibly holds the object. Move where you want it and place it back down.

No crafting is required - the carrying ability is always available.

How to Pick Up & Place#

  • Pick up: look at the target block/entity and sneak + use (the default carry control, rebindable in Options > Controls). You will see the object lifted in your hands.
  • Carry: move around freely while holding it. You can walk, but heavy or stacked carries may slow you (see Configuration).
  • Place down: aim at where you want it and use again to set it back, with its full state preserved - chests keep their items, machines keep their progress, mobs are released unharmed.

Picking up a block entity moves the whole tile (and its inventory) rather than just the block, which is what makes it so useful.

What You Can Carry#

Carry On supports three broad categories:

  • Blocks - ordinary blocks you can lift and reposition.
  • Block entities (tiles) - chests, furnaces, hoppers, barrels, spawners, and modded machines - and they retain their contents and state when moved.
  • Mobs / entities - pick up animals, villagers, and many creatures by hand and relocate them, then set them down.

The exact set of what is allowed is configurable (see below), so server owners can restrict carrying powerful blocks or certain mobs.

Configuration#

Carry On is configurable for both balance and server control:

  • Carriable allow/deny lists - choose exactly which blocks, block entities, and entities can be picked up. Owners often blacklist things like end portals, powerful modded machines, or bosses.
  • Stacking penalty - whether carrying heavy or multiple/complex objects slows you down, preventing trivial mass-relocation. Disable it for unrestricted hauling, or keep it for balance.
  • Additional toggles control interactions and restrictions per object type.

Edit the config and reload the world to apply changes.

Troubleshooting & FAQ#

I can't pick something up. It may be excluded by the carriable config (some blocks/entities are blocked by default or by the server), or you may not be using the correct sneak+use control.

Did my chest lose its items when I moved it? No - block entities keep their full contents and state when carried and placed.

Why am I moving so slowly while carrying? The stacking/weight penalty is active. Adjust or disable it in the config if you prefer no slowdown.

Is it safe on servers? Yes, and the allow/deny lists let admins restrict what players can carry to prevent abuse.
