Overview#

ProjectE is a massive overhaul of the Minecraft resource system, based on the legendary Equivalent Exchange 2 mod. The core philosophy of the mod is Alchemy: the ability to break down matter into its fundamental energy value, known as EMC (Energy Matter Covalence), and reconstruct that energy into different forms.

The mod's history is rooted in the work of x3n0ph0b3 and Pahimar, later refined by MozeIntel and SinkillerJ. It provides players with high-tier utility items, powerful armor, and automated resource generation systems that eventually allow a player to bypass the 'grind' of mining entirely. By using the Philosopher's Stone and Transmutation Tables, players can convert stacks of cobblestone into diamonds, or vice versa, provided they have the necessary energy value.

Core Mechanics: EMC and Transmutation#

Energy Matter Covalence (EMC)

EMC is the numerical value assigned to almost every item in the game. It represents the 'cost' of an item in the alchemical cycle. For example, a single Diamond has an EMC value of 8,192, while a piece of Cobblestone has a value of 1. This means 8,192 pieces of Cobblestone are equivalent to one Diamond.

Transmutation

Transmutation is the process of converting items into EMC and then using that stored EMC to create other items. To transmute an item, you must first 'teach' it to your Transmutation Table or Tablet by placing the item in the 'burn' slot. Once learned, you can pull infinite copies of that item out of the interface as long as you have enough stored EMC.

Charging Items

Many ProjectE tools and items have multiple power levels. By pressing the Charge Key (default 'V'), players can increase the power of an item (e.g., increasing the radius of a destruction tool). Pressing Shift + V will decrease the charge. High-charge operations often consume EMC from the player's inventory (stored in Klein Stars or fuels).

Alchemical Materials and Fuels#

ProjectE introduces new tiers of fuels and matter that serve as the building blocks for high-tier machinery and tools.

Key Items and Tools#

Philosopher's Stone

The foundation of all alchemy. It is used to craft transmutation devices and can transform world blocks (e.g., turning Grass into Sand) by right-clicking. It also provides a portable 3x3 crafting grid (default 'C').

Klein Stars

These act as portable EMC batteries. They can be charged in an Energy Collector or by 'burning' items inside a Transmutation Table while the star is present. They are required to power high-tier tools like the Morning Star.

Alchemical Bags

High-capacity portable chests that come in 16 colors. Unlike standard backpacks, Alchemical Bags are linked to the player and the color; if you lose a Blue Alchemical Bag, crafting a new one will still contain all your items.

Power Items

  • Volcanite Amulet: Allows the player to place lava and provides fire immunity while held.
  • Evertide Amulet: Provides infinite water placement and allows the player to walk on water.
  • Black Hole Band: Automatically pulls nearby dropped items into the player's inventory.
  • Archangel's Smite: Fires a volley of homing arrows at nearby enemies.

Alchemical Blocks#

Transmutation Table & Tablet

The Table is a stationary block used for learning and exchanging items. The Tablet is its portable counterpart. Both share the same 'Knowledge' bank for the player.

Energy Condenser (MK1 & MK2)

The Condenser is used for mass production. By placing a 'Target' item in the top-left slot, any items pumped into the chest will be converted into that target item based on EMC value. The MK2 version is significantly faster.

Energy Collectors

These blocks generate EMC out of thin air using light (Sunlight or Glowstone).

Anti-Matter Relays

Relays are used to transfer EMC from Collectors into Klein Stars or Condensers. They act as a buffer and increase the efficiency of the EMC generation process.

Interdiction Torch

A specialized torch that emits a blue light. It pushes all hostile mobs away from it in a small radius, making it perfect for base defense.

Armor and Mastery#

Dark and Red Matter Armor

These armor sets provide immense damage reduction and have infinite durability. Red Matter armor provides higher protection than Dark Matter.

Gem Armor

The pinnacle of ProjectE technology, crafted from Red Matter armor and various alchemical gems. It provides the following abilities:

  • Abyss Helmet: Provides Night Vision and infinite Water Breathing. Pressing the 'Extra Function' key creates a lightning strike on enemies.
  • Infernal Armor: Provides total immunity to fire and lava. Pressing the 'Extra Function' key releases a massive explosion (no self-damage).
  • Gravity Boots: Provides fall damage immunity and high-jump capabilities. It also allows the player to 'step up' full blocks.
  • Hurricane Boots: Grants the player creative-style flight and increased movement speed.

Mobs, Biomes, and Dimensions#

ProjectE does not add any new mobs, biomes, or dimensions to Minecraft. Instead, it focuses entirely on the manipulation of existing vanilla and modded items. It is designed to be compatible with almost any other mod, automatically calculating EMC values for items from other mods based on their crafting recipes.

Commands#

ProjectE includes several administrative commands to manage the EMC economy:

  • /projecte setemc [value]: Sets the EMC value for the item currently held in your hand.
  • /projecte removeemc: Removes the EMC value from the item in hand, making it untransmutable.
  • /projecte reloademc: Reloads the EMC registration file to apply changes made via commands or config files.
  • /projecte clearKnowledge [player]: Resets a player's learned items in the Transmutation Table.
