Overview#
The Thirst Mod enhances the survival aspect of Minecraft by integrating a thirst mechanic. Upon installation, a new Thirst Bar appears in the player's HUD, similar to the existing Food Meter. This bar depletes over time and with physical activity, such as movement, jumping, and breaking blocks. Maintaining hydration is crucial, as neglecting thirst can lead to various detrimental effects on the player.
Mechanics#
Thirst Bar
The Thirst Bar is a visual indicator in the player's HUD that tracks their current hydration level. It gradually decreases, with the rate of depletion influenced by physical exertion.
Hydration Sources
Players can quench their thirst using various water sources, each with different effects:
- Water Bottles: Provide a small amount of hydration and are 100% safe to consume.
- Open Water (Sea/Ponds): Can be drunk directly from bodies of water. While useful in emergencies, this water is not safe and can cause intoxication, leading to increased thirst.
- Purified Water: The safest and most effective way to restore thirst, fully replenishing the Thirst Bar.
Water Purification
Standard water bottles cannot be consumed directly due to the presence of germs and microorganisms. Water must be purified before it can be safely consumed for significant hydration.
There are two primary methods for purification:
- Boiling: A water bottle or water bucket can be boiled in a furnace to produce purified water.
- Rain Collector: This block is designed to collect rainwater, which is then purified.
Consequences of Dehydration
Failing to maintain adequate hydration can lead to severe penalties:
- Dizziness: The player's vision may become distorted.
- Unconsciousness Effects: The screen may fade in and out, simulating a state of unconsciousness.
- Vulnerability: Players become more susceptible to attacks and experience difficulty seeing, making combat and navigation challenging.
- Death: Prolonged dehydration ultimately results in the player's death.
Items#
Drinking Straw
An item that allows players to drink safely from any water source without the risk of intoxication.
Purified Water
Water that has been processed to remove impurities, making it safe and highly effective for restoring thirst. It can be obtained by boiling water or using a Rain Collector.
Filter
An essential component used in the Rain Collector to purify collected rainwater.
Blocks#
Rain Collector
A utility block designed to gather and purify rainwater. To function, the Rain Collector must be placed outdoors with no blocks directly above it to allow for rain collection. It features a GUI where a Filter and an empty glass bottle or bucket can be placed to produce purified water.
