Overview#
Treasure 2 is an expansive exploration mod that transforms the Minecraft world into a treasure hunter's paradise. The mod introduces a tiered system of buried treasure chests, ranging from common wooden crates to mythical crystal skulls. These chests are secured by a variety of locks that require specific keys to open, turning the act of looting into a multi-stage adventure. Players must navigate dangerous graveyards, sunken ships, and trapped pits to uncover the keys and the riches they protect.
Rarity System#
The mod operates on a strict seven-tier rarity system. This system governs the spawn rate of chests, the quality of loot, the strength of locks, and the effectiveness of charms and runes.
| Rarity | Applicable Items |
|---|---|
| Common | Chests, Keys, Locks, Loot, Adornments |
| Uncommon | Chests, Keys, Locks, Loot, Adornments |
| Scarce | Chests, Keys, Locks, Loot, Adornments |
| Rare | Chests, Keys, Locks, Loot, Adornments |
| Epic | Chests, Keys, Locks, Loot, Adornments, Charms, Runes |
| Legendary | Loot, Adornments, Charms, Runes |
| Mythical | Loot, Adornments, Charms, Runes |
Chests#
Chests are the primary objective of the mod. They can be found on the surface, buried deep underground, or hidden within custom structures. Each chest can have multiple locks (up to 3) that must be removed sequentially.
Chest Varieties
- Common: Wooden Chest, Moldy Crate, Cardboard Box, Milk Crate.
- Uncommon: Crate, Ironbound Chest, Viking Chest.
- Scarce: Pirate Chest, Iron Strongbox, Wither Chest, Skull Chest.
- Rare: Gold Strongbox, Safe, Gold Skull Chest, Spider Chest.
- Epic: Dread Pirate Chest, Compressor Chest, Cauldron Chest, Crystal Skull.
Discovery Locations
- Graveyards: Often contain surface chests or markers for buried pits.
- Treasure Pits: Deep vertical shafts inspired by Oak Island, containing layers of logs and debris.
- Sunken Ships: Found in ocean biomes, containing nautical-themed loot.
- Ruins: Both surface and subterranean structures that utilize the mod's decay system.
Locks and Keys#
To open a locked chest, players must use the correct key while sneaking (Sneak + Right Click). Keys have a durability (Max Uses) and a success probability. If a key fails its success roll, it may break.
Standard Keys
| Key Type | Rarity | Category | Unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wood Key | Common | Elemental | Wood Locks |
| Stone Key | Common | Elemental | Stone Locks |
| Leaf Key | Uncommon | Elemental | Leaf Locks |
| Iron Key | Uncommon | Metals | Iron Locks |
| Ember Key | Scarce | Elemental | Ember Locks |
| Gold Key | Scarce | Metals | Gold Locks |
| Diamond Key | Rare | Gems | Diamond Locks |
| Emerald Key | Rare | Gems | Emerald Locks |
| Ruby Key | Epic | Gems | Ruby Locks |

Special Keys and Tools
- Pilferer's Lock Pick: A low-tier tool for Common (24%) and Uncommon (12%) locks. Craftable.
- Thief's Lock Pick: An improved tool for Common (32%), Uncommon (24%), and Scarce (16%) locks. Craftable.
- Lightning Key: Unlocks all Elemental locks with a 95% success rate.
- Metallurgist's Key: Unlocks all Metal locks (Iron/Gold) with a 95% success rate.
- Jewelled Key: Unlocks all Gem locks (Diamond/Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire) with a 95% success rate.
- Skeleton Key: A powerful key that unlocks Common through Rare locks (excluding Wither) with a 95% success rate.
Key Ring
The Key Ring is a vital utility item. It acts as a portable container for keys. When used on a chest, it automatically cycles through its stored keys to find the correct match, saving inventory space and time.

Mobs#
Treasure 2 adds several entities that guard riches or haunt the structures where treasure is found.
Mimics
Mimics disguise themselves as treasure chests and attack when a player attempts to open them. They have high health and can deal significant damage.
- Wooden Chest Mimic: Found in lower-tier structures.
- Pirate Chest Mimic: Found in ships and high-tier ruins.
Bound Soul
Bound Souls are spectral entities found in Graveyards. They are tethered to a specific Gravestone. As long as they remain within a certain radius of their stone, they will rapidly regenerate health, making them difficult to defeat without destroying their anchor or luring them away.
Structures and Biomes#
Graveyards
Graveyards are surface markers for treasure. They are surrounded by a benign White Mist. While the gravestones themselves are decorative, they often mark the entrance to a Treasure Pit or hide a chest directly beneath the soil.
Treasure Pits
Based on the 'Money Pit' of Oak Island, these are deep, dangerous shafts. They consist of alternating layers of logs, gravel, and sand. Pits are often trapped with TNT or falling blocks. The rarest chests are located at the very bottom, often in a reinforced room.
Wither Trees and Groves
A mini-biome consisting of dead, blackened trees.
- Poison Mist (Green): Surrounds regular Wither trees; inflicts Poison.
- Wither Mist (Black): Surrounds the central Main Wither Tree; inflicts Wither.
- Wither Branches/Roots: Can be harvested to craft Wither Keys, the only way to open Wither Locks.
Items and Collectibles#
Currency and Wishing Wells
Players can find Copper, Silver, and Gold Coins, as well as various Gemstones. These can be thrown into Wishing Wells found in the world. The well will consume the item and spit out a random piece of loot; higher-value coins and gems yield better rewards.
Pouches
Pouches are specialized storage items that automatically collect and hold Coins, Gems, Pearls, Adornments, and Charms. This prevents the player's inventory from being cluttered by the mod's numerous small loot items.
Adornments, Charms, and Runes
These are equippable or holdable items that provide passive buffs.
- Adornments: Provide minor stat boosts.
- Charms: Provide magical effects like Haste, Strength, or Night Vision.
- Runes: High-tier items that offer powerful, permanent upgrades while in the player's inventory.
Crafting and Recipes#
Most Treasure 2 recipes require the Treasure Tool, a specialized item that prevents recipe conflicts with other mods.
| Item | Recipe Components |
|---|---|
| Treasure Tool | 2x Iron Ingots, 2x Sticks (Diagonal pattern) |
| Pilferer's Lock Pick | Treasure Tool + Iron Nugget + Stick |
| Key Ring | Treasure Tool + 4x Iron Ingots + 1x String |
| Pouch | Treasure Tool + 4x Leather + 1x String |
| Wither Key | Treasure Tool + Wither Branch + Wither Root |
| Spider Key | Treasure Tool + Spider Eye + Fermented Spider Eye + String |
Note: Keys can be merged in an Anvil to combine their 'Max Uses' up to a limit of 1000.

Mechanics: Decay and Mist#
Decay System
Structures in Treasure 2 use a dynamic decay engine. When a structure generates, the game calculates a 'Block Strength' for every block based on its height and distance from supporting walls. If the strength falls below a threshold, the block is replaced with air or a 'decayed' version (e.g., Stone Bricks turning into Cracked Stone Bricks or Cobblestone).
Mist Dispersal
Mists (White, Poison, and Wither) are generated by source blocks. These can be permanently dispersed by placing torches in a perimeter around the source or by destroying the source block itself.
Commands#
Administrators can use the following command to test loot or generate specific chests:
/t2-chest <x> <y> <z> [-rarity <rarity>] [-facing <facing>] [-chest <chest>] [-locked] [-sealed]
- -rarity: Sets the loot table quality.
- -locked: Determines if the chest spawns with locks.
- -sealed: If true, the chest generates its loot only when first opened.
