ViaBackwards Plugin (1.21.8, 1.20.1) is a Minecraft server-side tool that allows older clients (starting from version 1.9) to connect to newer server versions. It’s part of the ViaVersion ecosystem and is essential for maintaining compatibility across different Minecraft versions.
Features:
- Converts newer server packets into formats readable by older clients.
- Enables players using older Minecraft versions to join servers running newer releases (e.g., 1.21).
- Players using older clients won’t see or use new blocks, items, or mechanics.
- Sound mappings may be incomplete
- Inventory desyncs can occur for clients below 1.17
- Clients below 1.19.4 may not use the smithing table on 1.20+ servers (can be fixed with AxSmithing)
- Does Not Support 1.8 or Lower: Use ViaRewind or ProtocolSupport for those versions.
