Overview#

Zetta Industries (ZI) is a technical mod designed to bridge the gap between various popular industrial mods. It is built on a modular system, meaning specific features only load if their parent mods (such as OpenComputers, Immersive Engineering, or BuildCraft) are present in the modpack. This ensures a lightweight footprint while providing powerful end-game tools.

The mod is most famous for the Big Battery, a massive multiblock energy storage system, but it also introduces unique mechanics like long-distance computer networking via wires, NFC data storage, and weather manipulation.

Big Battery Multiblock#

The Big Battery is a customizable multiblock structure designed to store millions (or even trillions) of RF. Its mechanics are heavily inspired by Big Reactors/Extreme Reactors, requiring a hollow frame filled with an electrolyte fluid and internal electrodes.

Construction Rules

  • Minimum Size: 3x3x3 (External). This creates a 1x1x1 internal space.
  • Maximum Size: Theoretically unlimited, though performance may vary at extreme scales (e.g., 32x32x32).
  • Frame: Must be constructed from Battery Walls. Battery Glass can be used for the sides but not the edges or corners.
  • Interior: Must contain at least one Battery Electrode and be filled with Sulfurous Acid.
  • Controller: One Battery Controller must be placed on an exterior face.
  • Power Taps: Battery Power Taps must be placed on the top face of the battery, directly above an internal Electrode column.

Components

Block Function
Battery Controller The heart of the battery. Right-click to view storage and I/O stats.
Battery Wall Structural block for the frame and casing.
Battery Glass Transparent casing block for viewing the interior.
Battery Electrode Internal block that facilitates energy transfer. Must be submerged in acid.
Battery Power Tap Input/Output point. Shift-Right-Click with an empty hand to toggle between Input (Positive) and Output (Negative).

Electrolyte: Sulfurous Acid

To function, the battery must be filled with Sulfurous Acid. This fluid is created through a unique world-interaction process:

  1. Dig a 3x3 hole and fill the outer 8 blocks with water source blocks.
  2. Place a Block of Sulfur in the center.
  3. Ignite the top of the Sulfur Block with a Flint and Steel.
  4. After a short delay, the water will transform into Sulfurous Acid, which can be collected with buckets.

Mechanics

  • Capacity: Total storage is determined by the volume of Sulfurous Acid inside the structure.
  • Transfer Rate: The maximum RF/t input and output are determined by how many Electrode blocks are in direct contact with the acid. Stacking electrodes vertically increases throughput.

NFC System#

The NFC (Near Field Communication) module integrates with OpenComputers to provide a way to store and read data on physical cards.

NFC Cards

These items can store a single string of data up to 2048 characters in length. They are ideal for security keys, player-specific data, or automated routing instructions.

NFC Programmer & Reader

  • NFC Programmer: A block used to write data to an NFC Card via an OpenComputers interface.
  • NFC Reader: A block that detects and reads the data from an NFC Card when a player right-clicks the block with the card or when the card is placed in the reader's internal slot.

Immersive Engineering Integration#

Zetta Industries adds several high-tier tools and utilities that utilize Immersive Engineering's (IE) wiring and weapon systems.

OC Wires

This module allows OpenComputers networks to be connected over long distances using IE-style hanging wires.

  • OC Wire Connectors: Must be placed on top of an OpenComputers-compatible block.
  • OC Wire Coils: Used to link two connectors. This allows for aesthetically pleasing, long-range data transmission without the need for expensive wireless cards or miles of computer cables.

Wire Gun

The Wire Gun is a specialized ammunition type for the IE Revolver.

  • Function: When loaded with Wire Bullets, the revolver can shoot at two different connectors to instantly link them with wire. This is significantly faster than manual wiring, especially for high-altitude or dangerous locations.

Lightning Rocket

A weather-manipulation tool that summons lightning strikes.

  • Requirements: Must be fired at an altitude above Y=120 during rain or a thunderstorm.
  • Mechanics: The rocket is tethered to a thin copper wire. Upon reaching its peak, it triggers a lightning bolt. This is highly effective for charging IE Lightning Rods or transforming mobs (like Creepers into Charged Creepers).
  • Limitation: Does not work in Desert biomes.

Utility Blocks & Tools#

RF Meter

The RF Meter is a diagnostic block used to monitor energy flow in a cable network.

  • Display: Shows the current throughput (RF/t) and the total energy transferred on its front face.
  • Configuration: Right-click to open a GUI to change the display color or set a password.
  • Prepaid Mode: Allows the user to set a specific amount of energy to pass through. Once the limit is reached, the meter automatically cuts off the flow.
  • Redstone Control: Applying a redstone signal to the back of the block will disable energy flow.

Quarry Fixer

A utility block designed for BuildCraft users. When placed adjacent to a BuildCraft Quarry and right-clicked, it automatically removes all liquids (water and lava) from the quarry's digging area, preventing the quarry from slowing down or creating obsidian.

Variable Redstone Emitter (VRE)

A simple logic block that can be configured to output a specific vanilla redstone signal strength (0 to 15) to one of its sides. This is useful for compacting redstone circuits that require specific signal levels for comparators or logic gates.

Materials & Recipes#

Zetta Industries introduces several intermediate materials required for its high-end machines.

Graphite

Graphite is a key component of the Big Battery electrodes.

  • Recipe: Create a Block of Charcoal (9x Charcoal) and smelt it in a furnace to produce one Graphite Block.

Block of Sulfur

Used to create Sulfurous Acid.

  • Recipe (Standard): 4x Blaze Powder and 1x Gunpowder.
  • Recipe (with Railcraft): 4x Sulfur and 1x Gunpowder.
