Overview#
Grass Overhaul is a landscaping mod that expands vanilla's single grass block into a whole family of decorative turf shapes. It adds stackable, carpet-like sod patches plus slabs, stairs, and full blocks for every common ground type, so you can build smooth slopes, raised garden beds, and crisp edges that vanilla simply cannot make.
Every block keeps its proper biome grass tint and matches the default terrain textures, so the new pieces blend seamlessly into any world. Grass Overhaul works on both singleplayer worlds and multiplayer servers and needs only Fabric API. This is a 9Minecraft Studios port to Minecraft 26.2.
Getting Started#
- Install Fabric API alongside Grass Overhaul.
- Open the Creative inventory and find the Grass Overhaul tab, or search for
sodto see every variant. - Place a sod patch on the ground — it behaves like a thin carpet. Stack more patches on top to raise the height layer by layer, just like snow.
- Use the slab, stair, and full block versions to build steps, edges, and solid turf walls.
Block Types#
Sod patches
Thin, stackable layers that build up height one step at a time, ideal for gentle hills and smooth transitions.
Sod slabs
Half-height blocks for low ledges and clean surface breaks.
Sod stairs
Stepped blocks for natural-looking slopes and terraced landscaping.
Full sod blocks
Solid one-block versions for quick, large areas of shaped turf.
Ground variants
Every shape is available for grass, podzol, mycelium, dirt path, and both crimson and warped nylium, so you can match any biome or nether build.
Building Ideas#
- Smooth hills: stack sod patches at increasing heights to round off blocky terrain.
- Garden beds & paths: frame flower beds with sod slabs and lay path sod for walkways.
- Terraced gardens: use sod stairs to step a hillside into planting terraces.
- Nether decor: crimson and warped nylium sods bring soft, shaped ground to nether builds.
- Rooftop lawns: thin sod patches sit flush on top of blocks for green roofs and ledges.
FAQ#
Do the grass sods keep their green color? Yes — grass variants use the same biome tint as vanilla grass blocks, so they match the surrounding terrain.
Is it client or server side? It works on both; install it on the server (and clients) for multiplayer.
What does it need? Only Fabric API.
Can I stack the patches? Yes, sod patches stack in layers like snow to build up height gradually.
