Overview#
FinndusFillies is a satirical utility mod created by Myrathi for Minecraft. The mod is a humorous commentary on the 2013 horse meat scandal, where horse meat was discovered in food products labeled as beef. In-game, it addresses the relative lack of utility for horses by transforming them into a viable source of both food and industrial materials.
The mod primarily adds two features: the ability for horses to drop meat (cleverly disguised as beef) and a tanning process to create "glue" (not-so-cleverly disguised as slime-balls) from leather. This makes horses a renewable source of slime-balls, which are otherwise difficult to obtain without access to swamps or slime chunks.
Mobs#
The mod does not add new creatures but significantly modifies the drop table of the vanilla Horse mob to provide more resources upon death.
Horse
In the base game, horses only drop leather. FinndusFillies updates their behavior to drop meat, making them functionally similar to cows for survival purposes.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| New Drops | 1–3 Horse Meat (Raw Beef), 0–2 Leather |
| Cooked Drops | If a horse dies while on fire, it drops Cooked Horse Meat (Steak) instead of raw meat. |
| Behavior | Standard vanilla horse behavior remains unchanged; they can still be tamed, saddled, and ridden. |

Items#
FinndusFillies introduces several items that facilitate its new mechanics. While some items use vanilla textures and names as part of the mod's satirical theme, they are distinct additions to the horse's loot table and crafting tree.
- Horse Meat (Raw Beef): Dropped by horses upon death. It is visually identical to vanilla Raw Beef and provides the same nutritional value (3 hunger points and 1.8 saturation).
- Cooked Horse Meat (Steak): Obtained by smelting Horse Meat in a furnace. It is visually identical to vanilla Steak and provides 8 hunger points and 12.8 saturation.
- Treated Leather: An intermediate crafting component created by soaking leather in water and lime. It is the primary ingredient for producing renewable slime-balls.
- Slime-ball (Glue): While it uses the vanilla slime-ball item ID, the mod treats this as "animal glue" produced from processed leather. It can be used for all standard slime-ball recipes, such as Sticky Pistons and Lead.
Mechanics#
The mod introduces two core mechanics: Meat Processing and Glue Production.
Meat Processing
By allowing horses to drop meat, the mod provides players with an alternative food source. This is particularly useful in biomes where horses are more common than cows. The meat can be eaten raw or cooked in any standard furnace or powered heater from other mods.
Glue Production (Renewable Slime-balls)
The glue-making process is a multi-step tanning mechanic that allows players to bypass the need for hunting slimes.
- Soaking: Leather (from either cows or horses) is combined with a Water Bucket and Lime Dye to create Treated Leather.
- Boiling: The Treated Leather is then "boiled" (smelted) in a furnace to extract the collagen and create a Slime-ball.
Recipes#
The following recipes are added by the mod. All crafting recipes are shapeless, meaning the items can be placed anywhere in the crafting grid.
Crafting Table
| Result | Ingredients | Recipe Type |
|---|---|---|
| Treated Leather | 1x Leather + 1x Water Bucket + 1x Lime Dye | Shapeless |

Smelting
| Input | Output | XP Yield |
|---|---|---|
| Horse Meat | Cooked Horse Meat (Steak) | 0.35 |
| Treated Leather | Slime-ball (Glue) | 0.2 |

Configuration#
FinndusFillies generates a configuration file located at .minecraft/config/FinndusFillies.cfg upon the first launch. This file allows server administrators and players to adjust basic settings.
- Drop Rates: Some versions of the mod allow for the adjustment of how much meat or leather a horse drops upon death.
- Satire Toggle: While the mod is satirical by nature, the config primarily focuses on technical compatibility rather than gameplay toggles.
