Overview#
Pickle Tweaks is a modular utility mod designed by BlakeBr0 to enhance the Minecraft experience with small but impactful improvements. It bridges the gap between vanilla gameplay and modded convenience by adding new tool tiers, multi-functional equipment, and essential quality-of-life tweaks. Every feature in the mod is highly configurable, allowing players and modpack creators to tailor the experience to their specific needs.
The mod is best known for its 'Tool Breaking Tweak,' which prevents tools from disappearing when they reach zero durability, and its 'Paxels,' which combine the functionality of three tools into one. It also introduces various utility items like magnets and watering cans to streamline early-to-mid-game progression.

Tools and Equipment#
Pickle Tweaks adds several new categories of tools that expand upon the vanilla progression system.
Paxels
A Paxel is a 3-in-1 tool that combines the capabilities of an Axe, Pickaxe, and Shovel. It can mine any block that these three tools can, and it supports special actions like stripping logs and creating grass paths.
| Material | Durability | Mining Speed | Mining Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flint | 150 | 4.5 | 1 (Stone) |
| Emerald | 1561 | 8.0 | 3 (Obsidian) |
| Wooden | 59 | 2.0 | 0 (Wood) |
| Stone | 131 | 4.0 | 1 (Stone) |
| Iron | 250 | 6.0 | 2 (Iron) |
| Golden | 32 | 12.0 | 0 (Wood) |
| Diamond | 1561 | 8.0 | 3 (Obsidian) |
| Netherite | 2031 | 9.0 | 4 (Netherite) |
Sickles and Scythes
These tools are designed for large-scale harvesting and land clearing.
- Sickles: Used to mine plant-based blocks (leaves, grass, crops) in an Area of Effect (AOE). The size of the AOE depends on the tool's material.
- Scythes: Similar to Sickles but function as both a harvesting tool and a weapon. When used on crops, they harvest and automatically replant them in an AOE. As a weapon, they deal sweeping damage to multiple mobs.
Flint and Emerald Gear
- Flint Gear: An early-game alternative to stone and iron. Flint tools are slightly faster than stone but have lower durability. Flint armor provides basic protection.
- Emerald Gear: A high-tier alternative to diamond. Emerald tools and armor share similar stats with diamond gear, providing a use for excess emeralds late in the game.

Utility Items#
The mod includes several utility items to assist with automation and exploration.
Watering Cans
Watering cans are used to speed up the growth of crops and saplings. They do not require a water source to refill and can be used infinitely.
- Basic Watering Can: Affects a 3x3 area.
- Reinforced Watering Can: Affects a 7x7 area.
Item Magnet
The Magnet is a toggleable item that, when active in the player's inventory, pulls nearby items and experience orbs toward the player. This is particularly useful for mining or large-scale farming.
Night Vision Goggles
When equipped in the head slot, these goggles grant the wearer a permanent Night Vision effect. They can be repaired using Iron Ingots and come in a 'Reinforced' variant for increased durability.
Coal and Charcoal Pieces
Players can split standard Coal or Charcoal into 8 pieces. Each piece is capable of smelting exactly 1 item in a furnace, preventing the waste of fuel when only a small number of items need to be processed.
Meshes
Meshes are utility items used to process gravel into flint. By 'crafting' gravel with a mesh, players can reliably obtain flint without the RNG of breaking gravel blocks manually.
Food and Consumables#
Pickle Tweaks introduces high-tier apples that provide powerful, long-lasting buffs.
| Item | Crafting Ingredient | Effects |
|---|---|---|
| Diamond Apple | 8x Diamond + 1x Apple | Regeneration II, Resistance, Fire Resistance, Absorption |
| Emerald Apple | 8x Emerald + 1x Apple | Speed, Haste, Strength, Luck |
These apples are intended as a late-game gold sink for players with an abundance of gems.
Blocks#
The mod adds a few decorative and functional blocks to the game.
- Colored Cobblestone: Standard cobblestone that can be dyed into all 16 Minecraft colors. This allows for more variety in early-game builds.
- Smooth Glowstone: A variant of Glowstone with a cleaner, more uniform texture. It provides the same light level as standard Glowstone but is more aesthetically pleasing for modern builds.
- Dark Glass: A specialized glass block that prevents light from passing through while still being transparent to the player. Ideal for mob farms and dark rooms.

Mechanics and Tweaks#
The core of Pickle Tweaks lies in its mechanical changes to vanilla systems.
Tool Breaking Tweak
By default, Minecraft tools disappear when they reach 0 durability. Pickle Tweaks changes this so that tools become 'broken' and ineffective at 1 durability. A broken tool cannot mine blocks or deal damage but remains in the inventory, allowing the player to repair it at an anvil or via the crafting grid.
Crafting Grid Tool Repair
This feature allows players to repair tools directly in the 2x2 or 3x3 crafting grid. By placing a damaged tool alongside its base repair material (e.g., an Iron Pickaxe with an Iron Ingot), the tool's durability is restored. This functions similarly to an anvil but does not require an anvil block or experience levels (unless configured otherwise).
Right-Click Harvesting
Players can right-click any fully grown crop (Wheat, Carrots, Potatoes, Beetroot, etc.) to harvest it. The crop will drop its loot, and a seed will be automatically replanted in its place. This works with modded crops as well.
Tool Information Tooltips
Pickle Tweaks adds detailed information to tool and weapon tooltips, including:
- Mining Level: Displays the name of the highest tier block the tool can mine (e.g., 'Diamond').
- Mining Speed: Shows the numerical value of the tool's efficiency.
- Ammo Count: For bows and crossbows, the tooltip displays the total amount of valid ammo currently in the player's inventory.
Configuration#
Pickle Tweaks is designed to be highly modular. Almost every feature can be toggled or adjusted in the pickletweaks-common.toml file. Key configuration options include:
- Useless Tools: A blacklist that allows modpack creators to make certain tools (like Vanilla Wooden or Stone tools) completely unusable, forcing players to use modded alternatives.
- Harvest Level Overrides: Ability to change the mining level of specific blocks or tools.
- Hardness/Blast Resistance: Global modifiers for block durability.
- Stack Size Overrides: Allows players to increase the maximum stack size of items like Saddles, Ender Pearls, or Potions.
