Overview#
The Vampirism Mod is a comprehensive overhaul for Minecraft that introduces a faction-based gameplay system centered around the mythos of vampires. Players can choose to embrace the darkness as a powerful vampire, gaining supernatural strength and immortality at the cost of sunlight vulnerability, or join the ranks of the vampire hunters, utilizing advanced technology and holy weaponry to purge the world of the undead.
This mod adds a deep leveling system for both factions, a new biome known as the Vampire Forest, unique structures like Hunter Outposts and Baron Castles, and a complex village raid mechanic where factions battle for territorial control.
Getting Started#
Upon entering a world with Vampirism installed, players are neutral humans. To progress, you must choose a side. Note that becoming a member of one faction makes you an enemy of the other.
Becoming a Vampire
To start your journey as a vampire, you must be infected with the Sanguinare Vampiris effect. This can happen in two ways:
- Getting Bitten: Allow a hostile Vampire mob to attack you. There is a chance with every hit to receive the infection.
- Vampire Fangs: Kill a vampire to obtain a Vampire Fang, then right-click while holding it to inject yourself.
The infection lasts for one full Minecraft day. Once the timer expires, you will transform into a Level 1 Vampire. If you change your mind during the infection, drinking a Milk Bucket will cure you.
Becoming a Vampire Hunter
To become a hunter, you must seek out a Vampire Hunter Trainer in a village.
- Garlic Injection: Craft a Syringe (using glass and iron) and combine it with Garlic (found in gardens behind hunter houses) to create a Garlic Injection.
- Injection Chair: Find or craft an Injection Chair, sit in it, and use the Garlic Injection on yourself. This will grant you the Toxicant effect, making you a Level 1 Hunter and immune to the vampire infection.
The Vampire Faction#
Vampires do not use the standard hunger bar; it is replaced by a Blood Bar. To survive, you must feed on the blood of animals or villagers.
Vampire Leveling (1-14)
Leveling up as a vampire requires performing rituals at specific altars during the night.
| Level Range | Altar Required | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| 1 - 4 | Altar of Inspiration | Requires filling the altar with Blood Bottles. |
| 5 - 14 | Altar of Infusion | Requires a multiblock structure, Human Hearts, Pure Blood, and Vampire Books. |
Altar of Infusion Structure: To reach higher levels, you must build a structure around the Altar of Infusion using Altar Pillars topped with Altar Tips. The pillars must be filled with specific blocks (Stone Bricks, Iron, or Gold) to provide "Structure Points."
Vampire Skills
As you level up, you earn skill points to spend in the skill menu (default key: P).
- Bat Mode: Transform into a bat to fly, though you cannot attack in this form.
- Teleport: Instantly blink to a targeted location.
- Rage: Temporarily increase damage and speed at the cost of rapid blood consumption.
- Blood Vision: See entities through walls and identify those with high-quality blood.
- Sunscreen: A temporary buff that grants immunity to sunlight damage.
The Vampire Hunter Faction#
Hunters rely on equipment and research to combat the undead. They use standard hunger but gain access to specialized weaponry.
Hunter Leveling (1-14)
Leveling as a hunter involves training and gathering intelligence on your enemies.
| Level Range | Method | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| 1 - 4 | Hunter NPC Training | Trade Vampire Blood (obtained by killing vampires with a stake) to Hunter NPCs. |
| 5 - 14 | Hunter Trainer | Requires Hunter Intel (crafted at a Hunter Table) and payments of Iron or Gold ingots. |
Hunter Research: The Hunter Table is used to create Intel. To unlock higher tiers of research, you must place a Weapon Table, Potion Table, and Alchemical Cauldron adjacent to the Hunter Table.
Hunter Skills
- Stake Mastery: Increases the efficiency of stakes, allowing for instant kills on low-health vampires.
- Crossbow Skills: Unlocks semi-automatic and double-shot crossbows.
- Alchemy: Allows the crafting of Holy Water and Garlic Diffusers.
- Vampire Awareness: A passive ability that alerts the hunter to nearby invisible or disguised vampires.
Mobs and Creatures#
The mod introduces several new entities that populate the world, primarily active during the night.
| Mob | Faction | Behavior | Drops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic Vampire | Vampire | Hostile to humans/hunters; spawns in dark areas. | Vampire Fangs, Glass Bottles |
| Advanced Vampire | Vampire | Stronger, named vampires with unique skins. | Vampire Blood, Vampire Books |
| Vampire Baron | Vampire | Boss-level entity found in Vampire Forests. | Pure Blood (Tier 1-5) |
| Vampire Hunter | Hunter | Hostile to vampires; spawns in camps or villages. | Human Hearts, Hunter Intel |
| Advanced Hunter | Hunter | Uses crossbows and advanced tactics. | Enhanced Hunter Gear |
| Vampiric Animal | Neutral | Animals infected by vampires; have red eyes. | Impure Blood |
World Generation#
Vampire Forest
A dark, foggy biome where the sun's light is filtered, allowing vampires to walk freely during the day.
- Flora: Features Dark Spruce Trees and Cursed Spruce Trees. Cursed trees have reddish bark and will pull nearby non-vampire entities toward them to drain their blood.
- Vampire Orchids: Rare flowers used in various alchemical recipes.
Structures
- Hunter Outposts: Small camps with tents where hunters gather. They often contain chests with crossbow bolts and garlic.
- Vampire Crypts: Underground structures found in various biomes, serving as homes for vampires and containing lootable coffins.
- Baron Castles: Massive fortresses in the Vampire Forest where Vampire Barons reside.
Village Mechanics and Raids#
Villages are the primary battlegrounds for the two factions. Each village has a Village Totem at its center.
- Capturing a Village: By interacting with a neutral or enemy totem, a player can trigger a Village Raid. During a raid, waves of defenders will spawn. If the attackers succeed, the village falls under their control.
- Vampire Control: The village becomes shrouded in a dark fog, protecting vampire players from the sun. Villagers may be turned into vampires.
- Hunter Control: The village is heavily guarded by advanced hunters, and Garlic Diffusers may be placed to weaken invading vampires.
Items and Equipment#
Weapons
- Stakes: Essential for hunters. They deal massive damage to vampires and are required to harvest Vampire Blood.
- Crossbows: Ranged weapons for hunters, ranging from basic wooden versions to high-tech semi-automatic models.
- Vampire Swords: Can be charged with blood to deal extra damage and grant life-steal effects.
Utility Items
- Blood Container: A block or portable item used to store large quantities of blood.
- Coffin: Used by vampires to sleep through the day. They can be customized with different colors of cloth.
- Umbrella: A handheld item that protects vampires from sunlight damage while held.
- Holy Water: A throwable potion that deals significant damage to vampires and prevents them from using certain abilities.
