Overview#
Power Gems is a comprehensive magic and equipment mod that introduces eight unique gemstones into the Minecraft world. These gems are not merely decorative; they possess mystical affinities that grant the player permanent potion effects when crafted into full sets of armor. Beyond armor, the mod adds specialized tools and legendary weapons with unique combat abilities, such as lifting enemies into the air or harvesting souls for health.
The mod is designed to provide a tiered progression system where players hunt for rare ores at specific depths to unlock powerful endgame gear. Whether you need to survive the lava of the Nether or mine obsidian at lightning speeds, there is a gem set tailored for the task.
Gems and Ores#
The core of the mod revolves around eight types of gems. Seven of these are found as new ores in the Overworld, while the eighth utilizes a modified version of vanilla Lapis Lazuli.

Armor Sets and Potion Effects#
The primary mechanic of the Power Gems mod is the Permanent Potion Buff. To activate these effects, a player must wear a complete matching set of armor (Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, and Boots) made from the same gem.

Legendary Weapons and Special Tools#
Each gem type can be used to craft a unique "Legendary" item that possesses a special ability triggered during combat or utility use.
Special Item List
- Sword of Black Death (Amethyst): Inflicts the Wither effect on enemies, slowly draining their life.
- Sword of Paralysis (Topaz): Strikes enemies with extreme Slowness, effectively stunning them in place.
- Sword of Flames (Citrine): Sets enemies on fire and has a chance to instantly burn the armor off an opponent.
- Super Drill (Peridot): The ultimate mining tool. It mines 15x faster than a diamond pickaxe and has 3154 durability.
- Sword of the Bull (Sapphire): Intimidates foes on hit, applying a Weakness effect that reduces their attack power.
- Sword of the Angels (Aquamarine): Launches the target high into the air, dealing massive fall damage upon landing.
- Scythe of Reaping (Tourmaline): Harvests the souls of the fallen, restoring the player's health upon dealing damage.
- Farmer's Magic Rake (Lapis): Acts as an infinite bone meal source for crops and breaks pumpkins/melons instantly.
Crafting Recipes#
Crafting in Power Gems follows standard Minecraft patterns but introduces a mid-tier component called the Power Gem.
The Power Gem
To craft the most powerful items, you must first create a Power Gem of that specific type. Recipe: Place 5 of the raw gems in a "+" (cross) shape in the crafting table.
Armor and Tools
- Standard Armor: Crafted using the standard vanilla patterns (e.g., 8 gems for a chestplate).
- Standard Tools: Crafted using the standard vanilla patterns with sticks.
Legendary Item Recipes
Most legendary weapons require a combination of the raw gem, the Power Gem, and a metallic base.
- Super Drill: 4 Gold Ingots, 1 Iron Ingot, 1 Peridot, and 1 Power Gem of Haste.
- Sword of the Angels: 1 Aquamarine, 1 Power Gem of Jumping, 1 Iron Ingot, and 2 Nether Quartz.
- Sword of Black Death: 1 Amethyst, 1 Power Gem of Strength, and 1 Iron Ingot.
Mechanics and Configuration#
Armor Mechanics
The potion effects are tied to the armor's presence in the equipment slots. If any piece of the set is removed or breaks, the effect is immediately lost. The effects do not stack with standard potions; the highest level of the effect will take precedence.
In server environments (such as Paper or Spigot using the PowerGems plugin variant), players may be assigned a random "Starting Gem" upon their first join. This gem grants a specific ability or starter kit to define the player's role on the server. This feature requires the Seallib library to function correctly in plugin form.
Mining and Progression
Because Amethyst, Sapphire, and Tourmaline spawn at the same depth as Diamond (Y 1-12), players are encouraged to use Citrine (Fire Resistance) or Peridot (Haste) gear to safely and efficiently mine the deeper, more dangerous levels of the Overworld.
