Overview#

Torchmaster solves one of Minecraft's oldest chores - lighting up every corner of your base to stop mob spawns - with a single block: the Mega Torch. Place one and it prevents hostile mobs from spawning in a large radius around it, so you never have to carpet your area in torches again.

The mod also adds companion items: the Dread Lamp for blocking specific entity types, the Frozen Pearl crafting ingredient, and special flame variants (Terror and Feral) for more targeted control. Everything is configurable, including the protection radius and which entities are affected.

Getting Started & Crafting#

  1. Craft a Mega Torch (and the other items) using the in-game recipe book - the Mega Torch uses a torch plus additional materials; the Frozen Pearl is an intermediate crafting ingredient used in some recipes.
  2. Place the Mega Torch roughly in the center of the area you want to protect - a base, a mob-free farm zone, or an outdoor build.
  3. From that moment, hostile spawns inside its radius are suppressed.

The Mega Torch#

The Mega Torch is the centerpiece of the mod.

  • It defines a spawn-prevention zone - a large radius (and full vertical column by default) around the torch in which hostile mobs cannot spawn from darkness.
  • This means you can leave large areas unlit and still stay safe, replacing dozens or hundreds of regular torches.
  • Important: it blocks spawning, not movement - mobs that wander in from outside the zone, or that are spawned by spawners, are not removed. It stops the natural dark-spawn that would otherwise occur inside the radius.

Place a few Mega Torches to cover a large base; their zones can overlap for full coverage.

Other Items#

  • Dread Lamp - a more selective spawn blocker that targets specific entity types you configure, useful when you want to stop one kind of mob (or modded creature) without a blanket block.
  • Frozen Pearl - a crafting ingredient used in the mod's recipes (notably tied to the lamp/flame items).
  • Terror Flame / Feral Flame - special flame variants that provide additional, more focused spawn-control behavior for fine-tuning which creatures are kept out.

Together these let you go from a broad "no mobs here" Mega Torch to precise, per-entity control with the Dread Lamp and flames.

Configuration#

Torchmaster is built to be tuned to your world. In the config file (generated after first launch) you can adjust:

  • Mega Torch radius - how large the spawn-prevention zone is, horizontally and vertically.
  • Entity blacklist / whitelist - which entities the torch and lamp affect, so you can let certain mobs spawn or block extra (modded) ones.
  • Behavior of the Dread Lamp and flame items - the specific entities each one targets.

Adjust the radius to balance convenience against performance and difficulty, then reload the world.

Troubleshooting & FAQ#

Mobs still spawn near my Mega Torch. The torch blocks natural dark spawns inside its radius only. Mobs from spawners, mobs that walked in from outside the zone, or entities on the config blacklist are not stopped. Confirm the area is within radius and check the entity config.

How big is the radius? It is large by default and fully configurable - increase or decrease it in the config.

Can I block a specific modded mob? Yes - use the Dread Lamp and/or the entity config list to target specific entity types.

Does it remove mobs that are already there? No - it prevents new spawns; clear out existing mobs once after placing it.
