Overview#
The Five Nights at Freddy's Mod (often referred to as the FNaF Mod), developed by Mephilis, is a comprehensive horror expansion for Minecraft that brings the terrifying world of Scott Cawthon's franchise into the blocky world. Unlike simple mob additions, this mod introduces complex AI behaviors, functional security systems, and massive pre-built structures that replicate the iconic pizzerias from the games.
The mod is designed for both survival and creative play, allowing players to either defend themselves against roaming animatronics at night or build their own custom Fazbear Entertainment locations using a vast array of decorative and functional blocks. It requires the Kekolyp dependency for its advanced custom animations.
Animatronics#
The core of the mod is its massive roster of animatronics. These entities feature custom models, high-quality textures, and unique AI that changes based on the time of day.
General Behavior
- Daytime: Most animatronics are passive and will remain on their designated stages or spawn points, performing for the "audience."
- Nighttime: At midnight, animatronics enter "Free-Roam Mode." They become hostile toward players, villagers, and iron golems. They will actively hunt and attempt to jumpscare their targets.
- Jumpscares: If an animatronic reaches a player at night, it triggers a custom jumpscare animation that typically results in instant death.
FNaF 1 (Classics)
| Name | Health | Behavior | Drops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freddy Fazbear | 100 | Leader of the band; moves slowly but is relentless. | Faz-Coins, Iron Ingots |
| Bonnie the Bunny | 80 | Aggressive; often the first to leave the stage. | Faz-Coins, Blue Wool |
| Chica the Chicken | 80 | Wanders into the kitchen; often accompanied by her Cupcake. | Faz-Coins, Chicken |
| Foxy the Pirate Fox | 90 | Sprints down hallways; requires constant monitoring. | Faz-Coins, Iron Hook |
| Golden Freddy | ??? | Rare teleporting entity; can crash the player's game or cause hallucinations. | Remnant |
FNaF 2 (Toys & Withereds)
- Toy Animatronics: Faster and more modern versions of the classics. Includes Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, Toy Chica, and Mangle.
- Withered Animatronics: Damaged versions of the original cast found in the Backstage areas. They are highly aggressive and have larger reach.
- The Puppet (Marionette): Floats through the air and ignores most obstacles. Must be kept at bay or it will hunt the player down.
- Balloon Boy (BB): A nuisance mob that disables the player's flashlight if it gets too close.
FNaF 3 & 4 (Phantoms & Nightmares)
- Springtrap: The primary antagonist of FNaF 3 structures. He is incredibly fast and can crawl through vents to reach the player.
- Phantom Animatronics: Hallucinations that don't deal direct damage but cause blindness and jumpscare the player, making them vulnerable to Springtrap.
- Nightmare Animatronics: Massive, terrifying versions of the cast with sharp teeth and claws. They primarily spawn in the Afton House structure.
Items#
The mod adds several tools and consumables essential for survival and pizzeria management.
Tools & Utility
- Camera Monitor: The primary tool for defense. Right-click to open the camera interface and view linked cameras.
- Flashlight: Provides a beam of light. Requires batteries (Redstone) to recharge in some versions. Essential for warding off certain animatronics.
- Faz-Coins: Currency obtained from killing animatronics or found in structures. Used in Change Machines to get tokens.
- Faz-Wrench: A tool used to configure animatronics and link cameras to monitors.
- Animatronic Spawning Items: Creative-only items that allow players to place animatronics in specific modes: Static (no movement), Defender (attacks monsters), or Band (performs on stage).
Food
- Pizza Slice: Restores a significant amount of hunger and saturation. Can be found in Pizzeria structures or crafted.
- Soda: Provides a brief speed boost when consumed.
Blocks#
The mod features hundreds of blocks for building authentic FNaF locations.
Functional Blocks
- Security Doors: Heavy-duty doors that can be opened and closed via Redstone or right-clicking. Some variants are 2x3 or 3x3 blocks large.
- Vents & Vent Hatches: Modular blocks that allow for the creation of crawlspaces. Springtrap and other small animatronics can travel through these.
- Structure Spawners: Untextured blocks that, when right-clicked, instantly generate a full Pizzeria or FNaF-themed building.
- Remnant Infuser: A mysterious block used to process Remnant collected from rare animatronic drops.
- Arcade Machines: Decorative blocks that mimic the look of classic 8-bit games. Some variants emit light.
Decorative Blocks
- Checkered Tiles: Available in various colors (Black/White, Red/Blue, etc.) for floors.
- Posters: Large wall decorations featuring Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy.
- Stage Curtains: Large, multi-block curtains that can be toggled open or closed.
- Party Tables & Chairs: Modular tables that connect to each other and can be covered with different colored tablecloths.
Mechanics#
Camera System
To set up a security system, players must place Camera blocks around their building. Using a Camera Monitor, right-click each camera to link it.
- Modules: Cameras can be upgraded with modules like Night Vision, Motion Detectors (emits Redstone when a mob is seen), and Flashlight Modules.
- Controls: While in the monitor, use the on-screen buttons to switch views. Press Z to exit the camera view.
Day/Night Cycle
The mod tracks the world time. At 6:00 AM, all hostile animatronics will attempt to return to their original spawn points and become passive. At 12:00 AM (Midnight), they become active and begin their hunt.
Power Management
In certain pre-built structures, the player must manage a limited power supply. Closing security doors and using the camera monitor drains power. If power hits 0%, the doors open, the lights go out, and the animatronics become significantly more aggressive.
Structures#
The mod includes several massive structures that can be found naturally or spawned manually:
- Classic Pizzeria (FNaF 1): Features the main stage, Pirate Cove, the office, and the kitchen.
- Grand Re-Opening Pizzeria (FNaF 2): A much larger location with a Prize Counter, multiple party rooms, and a large vent system.
- Fazbear's Fright (FNaF 3): A horror attraction filled with props and a complex ventilation network where Springtrap resides.
- The Afton House (FNaF 4): A residential structure where Nightmare animatronics haunt the hallways and bedrooms.
- Circus Baby's Entertainment & Rental: An underground facility with specialized rooms like the Funtime Auditorium and the Breaker Room.
Recipes#
While many items are found in structures, several key components can be crafted.
