Overview#
MineFactory Reloaded (MFR) is a massive automation mod designed with the philosophy of "Stop Grinding and Start Building." It provides a vast array of machines to automate farming, animal care, mob grinding, and resource collection. Originally created by PowerCrystals and currently maintained by Team CoFH, the mod integrates seamlessly with the CoFH ecosystem, utilizing Redstone Flux (RF) for power and CoFH Core for its underlying mechanics.
Core Philosophy
The mod aims to replace manual, labor-intensive tasks with efficient, high-tech solutions. Whether it is harvesting thousands of crops, breeding livestock, or mining ores from bedrock, MFR provides a machine for the job. Most machines feature a standardized GUI and support range upgrades to expand their area of effect.
Getting Started: Rubber and Plastic#
The backbone of MineFactory Reloaded is Plastic. Almost every machine and tool requires plastic sheets or machine blocks made from plastic.
Rubber Trees
Rubber Trees are added to world generation. They feature dark bark and bright green leaves. Harvesting the wood provides Rubber Wood, and the leaves can drop Rubber Saplings.
- Raw Rubber: Obtained by harvesting Rubber Wood or smelting Rubber Wood.
- Rubber Bar: Smelt Raw Rubber to get a Rubber Bar.
- Raw Plastic: Smelt a Rubber Bar to produce Raw Plastic.
- Plastic Sheets: Craft 4 Raw Plastic in a square to create 4 Plastic Sheets.
The Factory Machine Block
The Factory Machine Block is the base component for nearly all MFR machines.
| Component | Material |
|---|---|
| Plastic Sheets | 4 (Corners) |
| Stone / Iron Ingot | 4 (Edges) |
| Glass Pane | 1 (Center) |
Note: In versions with Thermal Expansion installed, many recipes may default to using Machine Frames instead.
Machine Mechanics#
Most MFR machines share a common interface and set of behaviors. Understanding these is key to efficient automation.
The GUI Bars
When opening an MFR machine, you will see three distinct bars on the right side:
- Power Bar (Red Bolt): Indicates the amount of RF stored. Machines will not function without power.
- Work Bar (Green Arrow): Shows progress toward the current operation. When full, the task is completed.
- Sleep Bar (Blue Zz): If a machine has power but no valid targets (e.g., no crops to harvest), it enters a "sleep" state to save server resources. This bar counts down until the next check.
Range Upgrades
Many machines (Planter, Harvester, etc.) start with a default 3x3 area. This can be expanded using Range Upgrades placed in the upgrade slot.
| Upgrade Material | Radius Increase | Total Area |
|---|---|---|
| Cobblestone | -1 | 1x1 |
| Lapis | +1 | 5x5 |
| Iron | +2 | 7x7 |
| Tin | +3 | 9x9 |
| Copper | +4 | 11x11 |
| Bronze | +5 | 13x13 |
| Silver | +6 | 15x15 |
| Gold | +7 | 17x17 |
| Quartz | +8 | 19x19 |
| Diamond | +9 | 21x21 |
| Platinum | +10 | 23x23 |
| Emerald | +11 | 25x25 |
Farming Automation#
MFR provides a complete suite for automated crop and tree farming.
- Planter: Plants seeds, saplings, and tubers in the area above it. It can be configured with a 3x3 internal grid to map specific seeds to specific quadrants of the field.
- Harvester: Breaks mature crops and trees in front of it. It produces Sludge as a byproduct, which must be piped out for the machine to continue working.
- Fertilizer: Uses Industrial Fertilizer, Bone Meal, or fertilizers from other mods to instantly grow plants in its range.
- Fruit Picker: Specifically harvests fruits attached to trees (like Cocoa Beans or Apples) without breaking the leaves or wood.
Animal Husbandry#
Automating livestock is a core feature of MFR, allowing for infinite resources like meat, wool, and milk.
- Breeder: Consumes appropriate food (wheat, seeds, etc.) to breed animals in its range.
- Chronotyper: Moves animals based on age. It can be set to move only babies or only adults across its boundary, allowing for automated sorting.
- Rancher: Harvests renewable resources from animals, such as milking cows, shearing sheep, or collecting mushroom soup from Mooshrooms.
- Sewer: Collects Sewage from animals standing above it. The more animals (and the larger they are), the more sewage is produced.
- Composter: Converts Sewage into Industrial Fertilizer.
- Slaughterhouse: Kills animals to produce Liquid Meat and Pink Slime. It does not produce standard item drops.
- Grinder: Kills mobs and animals to produce standard item drops and Mob Essence (Liquid XP).
The Laser Drill#
The Laser Drill is the ultimate end-game resource generator. It does not mine existing blocks but creates ores out of "nothing" by drilling into bedrock.
Setup
- Laser Drill: Must be placed over a hole that has a clear line of sight to Bedrock or the Void.
- Laser Drill Prechargers: Up to 4 Prechargers must be placed one block away from the Drill, facing it. These require massive amounts of RF.
- Power: Each ore costs 6,000,000 RF. Prechargers can accept up to 5,000 RF/t each (20,000 RF/t total).
Laser Focus
By placing Laser Focus items (colored glass-like items) into the Drill's internal inventory, you can increase the weight of specific ores in the generation table.
| Focus Color | Ores Favored |
|---|---|
| Black | Coal |
| Light Blue | Diamond |
| Lime | Emerald, Uranium |
| Yellow | Gold |
| Brown | Iron |
| Blue | Lapis Lazuli |
| Red | Redstone |
| White | Nether Quartz |
Mobs: The Pink Slime#
The only mob added by MineFactory Reloaded is the Pink Slime.
Spawning and Behavior
Pink Slimes do not spawn naturally. They are created when a bucket of Pink Slime (Liquid) is placed in the world. After a short time, a tiny Pink Slime will spawn from the liquid.
- Health: Big (16 HP), Small (4 HP).
- Drops: Pink Slimeballs (only from the smallest size).
- Embiggening: Using a Slime Embiggening Syringe on a Pink Slime will increase its size. Using it on a maximum-size slime will cause it to explode into Raw "Meat" Nuggets and several smaller slimes.
RedNet Logic System#
RedNet is a sophisticated redstone logic system that allows for 16 independent signals to be carried through a single cable.
- RedNet Cable: Can be colored to connect to specific channels. It can carry signals over long distances without degradation.
- Programmable RedNet Controller (PRC): A single block that can replace hundreds of redstone torches and gates. It features a GUI where players can program complex logic (AND, OR, XOR, Counters, Timers, etc.) using the 16 RedNet channels.
- RedNet Reader: A handheld tool used to debug signals on a cable.
- RedNet Historian: A block that displays a graph of redstone signal strength over time.
Tools and Utility Items#
Precision Sledgehammer
The primary tool for MFR. It is used to rotate machines and, when held, highlights the working area of any MFR machine the player is looking at.
Safari Nets
Used to capture and transport mobs.
- Single-Use: Consumed upon releasing the mob.
- Re-Usable: Can be used indefinitely.
- Jailer's: Mobs released from this net will not despawn naturally.
- Safari Net Launcher: Allows capturing and releasing mobs from a distance.
Syringes
Used on animals or mobs for various effects:
- De-Zombification: Turns Zombie Villagers back into Villagers.
- Growth Hormone: Instantly ages baby animals.
- Health: Heals the target.
- Slime Embiggening: Increases the size of slimes.
Storage and Processing#
- Deep Storage Unit (DSU): An incredible storage block that can hold up to 2,147,483,647 of a single item type. It retains its contents when broken.
- Auto-Enchanter: Uses Mob Essence and RF to enchant items or create enchanted books.
- Auto-Spawner: Consumes Mob Essence and RF to spawn mobs captured in a Safari Net. It can be set to "Exact Copy" to spawn specific variants (like Wither Skeletons or colored Sheep).
- Unifier: Automatically converts items between different mod versions (e.g., converting Copper Ore from one mod to another).
- Sludge Boiler: Processes the Sludge produced by Harvesters into useful materials like Dirt, Sand, Clay, and occasionally rare items like Peat or Mycelium.
Maintenance and Updates#
As of the May 25, 2019 updates, MineFactory Reloaded remains a stable component of the CoFH modding suite. Recent minor updates have focused on bugfixes and ensuring compatibility with CoFH Core, Thermal Expansion, and Redstone Arsenal. These tweaks ensure that MFR machines interact correctly with modern RF power grids and item transport systems.
