Overview#
Garden Stuff is a modular enhancement for Minecraft's gardening and decoration systems. It allows players to move beyond simple flower pots into a world of complex landscaping. The mod is built on a modular framework, allowing users to customize their experience by enabling or disabling specific components. Its primary focus is on the 'Modular Pot' system, which allows for multiple plants to be placed within a single block space, and the 'Wrought Iron' system for high-detail decorative fencing and lattice work.
The mod is divided into four internal modules:
- GardenCore: The mandatory base module that handles plant data and shared mechanics.
- GardenContainers: Adds modular pots, window boxes, and hanging baskets.
- GardenStuff: Adds wrought iron, wood posts, and lattice blocks.
- GardenTrees: Adds ornamental trees and sapling variants.
Blocks#
Modular Pots
Modular pots are the centerpiece of the mod. Unlike vanilla pots, these can be crafted from various materials and hold different types of soil.
| Block Name | Description | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Large Pot | A full-block pot that can hold a 3x3 grid of plants. | 9 Plants |
| Medium Pot | A smaller pot that holds a single plant but allows for soil customization. | 1 Plant |
| Small Pot | The smallest variant, similar to vanilla but compatible with modded soils. | 1 Plant |
| Window Box | A decorative container that can be attached to the side of blocks. | 3 Plants |
| Hanging Basket | A container that hangs from the ceiling or a post. | 1 Plant |
Decorative Elements
| Block Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Lattice | Available in all wood types and iron. Allows plants to climb or be placed against them. |
| Wrought Iron Fence | A thin, decorative iron fence with unique connection logic. |
| Wrought Iron Gate | A matching gate for the wrought iron fence system. |
| Wood Post | Can be placed vertically or horizontally to create fences, supports, or pergolas. |
| Stone Wall | Heavy decorative walls available in various stone types. |
| Lighted Lantern | A wrought iron lantern that provides a high light level. |
Items and Tools#
Tools
- Trowel: The primary tool for gardening. Right-clicking a modular pot with a trowel allows you to manage the plants inside. It is used to dig up plants without destroying them and to arrange plants within the Large Pot's 3x3 grid.
- Heavy Chain: Used in the crafting of hanging baskets and for decorative suspension.
Materials
- Wrought Iron Ingot: Created by smelting Iron Bars in a furnace. This is the base material for all 'Stuff' module items.
- Stone Slabs/Bricks: Used as base materials for modular pots.
| Item | Image | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Wrought Iron Ingot | Crafting material for fences and lattice. | |
| Trowel | Managing plant arrangements. |
Mechanics: Modular Pots#
The Modular Pot system introduces several unique mechanics for plant growth and decoration.
Soil Layering
Before placing a plant in a Modular Pot, you must add soil. Different soils can be used, including Dirt, Sand, Soul Sand, and Grass. The soil type determines which plants can be placed inside. For example, Cacti require sand, while Nether Wart requires Soul Sand.
Flower Arrangements
The Large Pot features a 3x3 internal grid. By using a Trowel, players can precisely place plants in any of the nine slots. This allows for the creation of dense bushes, mixed flower bouquets, or miniature gardens within a single block.
Plant Sizes
Plants are categorized by size. Small plants (like mushrooms or poppies) take up one slot in a 3x3 grid. Larger plants or saplings may occupy the center slot and prevent other plants from being placed too close, depending on their bounding box.
Mechanics: Lattice and Climbing#
Lattice blocks serve as both decoration and functional support for climbing plants.
- Placement: Lattice can be placed on the floor, ceiling, or walls. They will automatically connect to adjacent lattice blocks of the same type.
- Climbing: Vines and certain modded plants can be placed directly onto a lattice. Unlike vanilla vines, plants on a lattice are contained within the lattice's block space.
- Wood Types: Wood lattice is available in Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, and Dark Oak, matching vanilla wood colors.
GardenTrees Module#
The GardenTrees module focuses on ornamental forestry. It introduces 'Thin Log' variants and decorative saplings.
- Ornamental Trees: These trees grow in specific patterns designed for landscaping rather than timber farming.
- Wood Posts: These are crafted from logs and function similarly to fences but can be placed in any orientation (X, Y, or Z axis), making them ideal for rafters or custom fence designs.

Configuration#
Garden Stuff provides a configuration file (GardenStuff.cfg) and in-game menu options to toggle major features.
- Module Toggling: Within the Forge Mod List, players can disable
GardenContainers,GardenStuff, orGardenTrees.GardenCoremust remain enabled for the others to function. - Registration: Disabling a module prevents its blocks and items from being registered in the game registry, which can help save ID space in large 1.7.10 modpacks.
- Plant Compatibility: The config allows for the manual addition of modded plants to the 'allowed' list for modular pots if they are not automatically detected by GardenCore.
