Falling Meteors Mod Wiki

A comprehensive guide to the Falling Meteors Mod, detailing celestial impacts, extraterrestrial materials, and advanced meteor defense systems.

Overview#

The Falling Meteors Mod for Minecraft introduces a dynamic celestial system where various types of meteors randomly crash into the world. These impacts create craters filled with rare ores and minerals that can be used to craft powerful gear with unique abilities. The mod also features advanced technology to track and defend against these impacts, as well as unique extraterrestrial life forms.

Core Gameplay Loop

  1. Meteor Fall: Meteors fall randomly (typically every 3 to 5 in-game days). Impacts are accompanied by a loud explosion and a visible streak in the sky.
  2. Exploration: Locate the crash site using Detectors or by following the sound and light.
  3. Mining: Harvest the meteor blocks. Note: Blocks cool over time; mining them while they are hot yields more resources.
  4. Crafting: Use the collected materials to create specialized armor, tools, and machines.

Meteor Types#

There are five distinct types of meteors that can fall into your world, each providing different materials and challenges.

Meteor Type Primary Material Special Features
Meteorite Meteorite Chips / Ingots The most common type. Spawns Alien Creepers.
Frezarite Frezarite Crystals Icy meteors that spawn in cold biomes or randomly. Blocks turn to water if not mined quickly.
Kreknorite Kreknorite Chips Fiery meteors that create lava and fire upon impact.
Unknown Meteor Random Ores / Chests A rare, colorful meteor that contains a mix of all meteor types and a chest with vanilla treasures.
Kitty Comet Comet Kitties A non-destructive (mostly) comet that brings Comet Kitties to the world.

Mobs#

The mod adds two unique entities that originate from space.

Alien Creeper

Alien Creepers are hostile extraterrestrial variants of the standard Creeper. They often spawn at Meteorite crash sites or when mining Meteorite Ore.

  • Health: 20 (10 Hearts)
  • Damage: 97 (at point-blank range)
  • Behavior: They behave like standard Creepers but have a significantly larger explosion radius (approx. 1.5x to 2x larger).
  • Drops: 0-2 Meteorite Chips or Red Meteor Gems.

Comet Kitty

Comet Kitties are passive, tamable creatures that arrive via Kitty Comets. They are easily identified by their black fur and small space helmets.

  • Health: 16 (8 Hearts)
  • Behavior: Timid like Ocelots. They are immune to fire and lava damage.
  • Taming: Can be tamed using Raw Fish. Once tamed, they act like vanilla cats but retain their fire immunity.
  • Special Ability: They scare away Alien Creepers and standard Creepers from a greater distance than normal cats.
  • Breeding: Can be bred with Raw Fish. Breeding two Comet Kitties results in a Comet Kitten; breeding with an Ocelot has a 50% chance for either species.

Blocks & Technology#

To manage the chaos of falling space rocks, the mod provides several high-tech blocks.

Meteor Shield

The Meteor Shield is the primary defense against impacts. It protects a specific radius of chunks from being destroyed by meteors.

  • Function: When a meteor is about to land in protected territory, the shield destroys it mid-air.
  • Materials: The shield collects a portion of the materials from the destroyed meteor, which can be retrieved from its internal inventory.
  • Upgrading: Use Red Meteor Gems to increase the power level (1-5). Higher levels protect a larger radius.
  • Charging: Requires a warm-up period after placement. This can be bypassed by inserting a Meteorite Chip into the bypass slot.

Freezer

A specialized machine used to process materials using cold energy.

  • Fuel: Uses Frezarite Crystals, Ice, or Packed Ice.
  • Recipes:
    • Iron Ingot → Frozen Iron
    • Water Bucket → Ice Block
    • Lava Bucket → Obsidian
    • Water + Ice → Packed Ice
    • Any Block + Water → Slippery Block (Up to 4 levels of slipperiness)

Detection Tools

  • Meteor Timer: Emits a Redstone signal that increases in strength as a meteor impact approaches.
  • Meteor Proximity Detector: Points toward the nearest existing crash site.
  • Meteor Crash Detector: Points toward the location where the next meteor is predicted to land.

Equipment & Gear#

Materials harvested from meteors can be crafted into three tiers of specialized equipment.

Meteorite Gear

  • Armor Ability: Magnetization. Automatically pulls nearby dropped items toward the player.
  • Tool Ability: Magnetization (pulls mined items directly to the player).
  • Durability: Slightly higher than Iron.

Frezarite Gear

  • Armor Ability: Water Walking & Underwater Breathing. Freezes water under the player's feet and extends oxygen supply.
  • Tool Ability: Slows down hit enemies (Freezing effect).
  • Durability: Comparable to Iron, but with high utility.

Kreknorite Gear

  • Armor Ability: Fire Immunity. Provides complete protection against fire and lava damage.
  • Tool Ability: Sets enemies on fire upon hit.
  • Durability: Slightly below Diamond, but the fire immunity is invaluable for Nether exploration.

Crafting Recipes#

Most recipes follow standard vanilla patterns but use mod-specific ingots and materials.

Item Recipe Components
Meteor Shield 3 Meteorite Ingots + 5 Cobblestone + 1 Redstone
Freezer 4 Iron Ingots + 4 Frezarite Crystals + 1 Empty Bucket
Meteor Timer 2 Meteorite Blocks + 1 Meteorite Ingot + 1 Frozen Iron Ingot + 1 Kreknorite Ingot + 1 Redstone
Meteorite Ingot Smelt Meteorite Chips in a Furnace
Meteorite Block 9 Meteorite Ingots
Meteor Summoner 5 Red Meteor Gems + 4 Meteorite Chips (Cross pattern)

Specialized Summoners

Summoners are used to force a meteor impact at your location. Combine a standard Meteor Summoner with the following:

  • Meteorite Summoner: Surround with Meteorite Chips.
  • Frezarite Summoner: Surround with Frezarite Crystals.
  • Kreknorite Summoner: Surround with Kreknorite Chips.
  • Kitty Comet Summoner: Surround with Raw Fish.
  • Unknown Summoner: Combine all three meteor chip types with Red Meteor Gems.

Mechanics & Configuration#

Cooling Mechanic

When a meteor hits, the blocks are initially "Hot." Mining hot blocks has a 100% chance to drop chips/crystals. As the blocks cool (visualized by the texture darkening), the drop rate decreases to approximately 25-30%. Blocks near water cool significantly faster.

Configuration Options

Players can modify the Meteors.cfg file to adjust the following:

  • Meteor Fall Deterrence: Higher values make meteors fall less frequently (Default: 25).
  • Meteor Fall Radius: The maximum distance from a player a meteor can land (Default: 350 blocks).
  • Meteors Only Fall at Night: Toggle whether impacts occur during the day (Default: True).
  • Meteor Size: Set the minimum and maximum size of craters (1 to 3).

Commands

  • /summonmeteor [type] [size] — Manually triggers a meteor fall.
  • /stopmeteors — Stops all currently falling meteors.
