Overview#

Equivalent Exchange 3 (EE3), created by Pahimar and X3N0PH0B3, is an alchemy and transmutation mod. Its central idea is the principle of equivalent exchange: every item and block has an underlying value, and using the right alchemical tool you can transmute one thing into another of equal worth.

The mod is built around crafting alchemical stones and a network of supporting devices for distilling, infusing, and storing alchemical materials. Players use these tools to break down common resources and reshape them into other useful items, reducing the need to gather every resource by hand.

EE3 was a work-in-progress rebuild of the older Equivalent Exchange concept, so some content is fully implemented and usable, while other planned items are not yet finished.

Transmutation#

Transmutation is the core mechanic of the mod. Using an alchemical stone such as the Minium Stone or the Philosopher's Stone, players can convert items into other items of equivalent value. For example, ingots like Gold or Iron can be transmuted into other materials according to their relative worth.

The Minium Stone is the main early transmutation tool and acts as a crafting catalyst: placing it in a crafting grid alongside other items enables special transmutation recipes that turn one resource into another. This gives players a flexible way to trade surplus materials for ones they need.

Tools and Blocks#

EE3 adds a set of alchemical tools and blocks used to process and store materials:

  • Minium Stone - the primary transmutation catalyst.
  • Inert Stone - a base item used in creating alchemical stones.
  • Alchemical Chest (Small) - dedicated alchemical storage.
  • Alchemical Bag - portable alchemical storage carried by the player.
  • Aludel Base and Glass Bell - combine to form an aludel, a structure used for alchemical distillation and infusion.
  • Calciner - processes materials into alchemical dusts.
  • Research Station - used to study and unlock alchemical knowledge.
  • Augmentation Table - used to enhance or modify alchemical items.

Together these blocks form the workflow of the mod: gather materials, process them through the calciner and aludel, store results in alchemical chests or bags, and research new capabilities.

Infusion Materials#

The mod adds a range of dusts and infused materials that serve as the ingredients of alchemical crafting:

  • Ash - a basic byproduct/ingredient of alchemical processing.
  • Minium Dust, Azure Dust, and Verdant Dust - colored alchemical dusts used in recipes.
  • Infused Cloth - cloth charged with alchemical energy.
  • Infused Woods - wood variants in Azure, Minium, and Verdant types, used as crafting components.

These materials are produced by breaking down resources and are then recombined to create the mod's stones, tools, and higher-tier items.

Unfinished Content#

Because the mod is a work in progress, several items are present in the game but not yet fully implemented. They are only obtainable through creative mode or item-giving commands rather than legitimate crafting, and their intended functions may be incomplete:

  • Philosopher's Stone - the planned high-tier transmutation stone.
  • Shard of Minium - a component related to the Minium Stone.
  • Amaranthine Dust and Iridescent Dust - advanced alchemical dusts.

These items represent planned future features of the mod rather than finished, balanced content.
