Overview#

BiblioCraft is a long-standing utility and aesthetic mod that focuses on the display and organization of items. Originally centered around a functional bookcase, it has expanded to include a vast suite of furniture including armor stands, potion shelves, tool racks, desks, and clocks. The mod is highly compatible with various wood types from other mods and features a unique printing system for duplicating books and maps.

In its most recent iterations, the mod has undergone significant networking updates to improve server stability and prevent exploits. It also features functional audio for interactive blocks like the Desk Bell and Display Case, ensuring a consistent experience in both single-player and multiplayer environments.

Storage Blocks#

Storage blocks in BiblioCraft are designed to show their contents visually, allowing players to see exactly what is stored without opening a GUI.

Bookcase

The Bookcase can hold up to 16 books, including standard books, enchanted books, written books, and even items from other mods that behave like books (such as Thaumcraft's Thaumonomicon).

Feature Details
Capacity 16 Books
Redstone Outputs signal based on the number of books
Interaction Right-click a slot to place/remove; Shift-right click with empty hand to open GUI

Shelf

A general-purpose storage block that can hold four items of any type. Items are displayed in a 2x2 grid on the shelf.

Potion Shelf

Specifically designed for potions, these shelves can hold up to 12 bottles. The bottles are displayed clearly, making it easy to distinguish between different brews at a glance.

Tool Rack

A wall-mounted rack that holds up to 4 tools or weapons. It is compatible with almost any item that can be held, including pickaxes, swords, and bows.

Case (Display Case)

Available in different wood types and interior cloth colors (Red, Blue, Green, Black), the Display Case is a glass-topped box for a single precious item. It can be opened and closed with a right-click.

Furniture and Decor#

BiblioCraft adds several pieces of furniture that serve both aesthetic and functional purposes.

Armor Stand

Unlike the vanilla armor stand, the BiblioCraft version allows for easy swapping of entire sets. Right-clicking a specific part of the stand with armor will equip it; shift-clicking will swap the player's current armor with the armor on the stand.

Desk

Desks can hold up to 9 books or items and provide a surface for writing. If a player places a Book and Quill on the desk, they can interact with it to write without removing it from the desk.

Table

Tables can be connected to form larger surfaces. A Dinner Plate can be placed on top of a table to display food items.

Fancy Sign

These signs allow for more customization than vanilla signs. They can display an item icon alongside multiple lines of text and can be placed on the floor, wall, or ceiling.

Clock

A functional grandfather clock that can be set to chime on the hour. It can be upgraded with a Redstone Chassis to emit a redstone pulse at specific times.

Specialized Tools#

The mod introduces several tools to assist with measurement, navigation, and block manipulation.

Tool Function
Tape Measure Measures the distance between two blocks in meters (blocks).
Reading Glasses When worn, looking at BiblioCraft blocks reveals a HUD overlay showing the names of the items stored inside.
Monocle Functions identically to Reading Glasses but occupies only one eye visually.
Print Press Chase Used in the Printing Press to hold the plates for book or map duplication.
Stockroom Catalog Used to index the contents of multiple chests. Shift-right click chests to add them to the catalog, then open the catalog to search for items.
Hand Drill Used to rotate BiblioCraft blocks without breaking them.
Plumb Line Measures the depth of water or the distance to the floor when used over a ledge.

Printing and Duplication#

The printing system allows players to mass-produce written books and maps. This process requires three main components: the Typesetting Table, the Printing Press, and the Print Press Chase.

The Process

  1. Typesetting Table: Place a Written Book or a Map on the table along with a Print Press Plate. This will consume levels of experience to "burn" the data onto the plate.
  2. Print Press Chase: Place the finished Plate into a Chase.
  3. Printing Press: Place the Chase into the Printing Press. Add Ink (Ink Sacs or modded dyes) to the ink plate and paper to the press.
  4. Operation: The press will automatically begin printing copies of the book or map until it runs out of materials.

Crafting Recipes#

Most BiblioCraft blocks are crafted using various wood planks and slabs. The wood type used in the recipe determines the appearance of the finished block.

Basic Wood Recipes

Bookcase

  • Top Row: 3 Wood Slabs
  • Middle Row: 3 Empty
  • Bottom Row: 3 Wood Planks
  • Sides: 2 Wood Planks

Armor Stand

  • Top Middle: 1 Iron Ingot
  • Middle Row: 1 Stick, 1 Stone Pressure Plate, 1 Stick
  • Bottom Row: 3 Wood Slabs

Tool Rack

  • Top Row: 3 Wood Slabs
  • Middle Row: 3 Iron Brackets (Crafted with 2 Iron Ingots)
  • Bottom Row: 3 Wood Slabs

Framed Blocks

Players can craft "Framed" versions of most blocks using the Framing Saw. These framed blocks have no default texture; when placed in a Furniture Paneler with another block (like Cobblestone or Diamond Blocks), the framed furniture will take on the texture of that block, allowing for infinite aesthetic variations.

Mechanics and Configuration#

Map Frames

Map Frames allow players to place maps on walls. If multiple Map Frames are placed adjacent to each other, the maps will seamlessly connect. Using a Drafting Compass on a Map Frame allows the player to mark waypoints.

Painting Frames

Painting Frames can be used to display custom artwork. By using the Painting Press, players can select from various pre-loaded art styles or add their own images via the mod's configuration folder. Frames come in multiple sizes, from 1x1 to 2x2 and larger.

Configuration

The BiblioCraft.cfg file allows server administrators to:

  • Enable or disable specific blocks.
  • Adjust the chime frequency of clocks.
  • Add custom items to the "Allowed Books" list for Bookcases.
  • Toggle the rendering of items in high detail to improve performance on lower-end machines.
