Overview#

Environmental Tech is a high-tier industrial mod focused on massive multiblock structures that automate resource gathering and energy production. Unlike traditional mining mods, Environmental Tech allows players to generate ores, stones, and organic materials from the void, effectively creating resources from nothing at the cost of significant power (Forge Energy/RF). The mod is designed for mid-to-late game progression, requiring rare crystals obtained through its own machines to upgrade to higher, more efficient tiers.

Key features include:

  • Void Miners: Extract ores, resources, and botanicals from the void.
  • Solar Arrays: Generate massive amounts of power from sunlight.
  • Lightning Rods: Harvest energy from lightning strikes during storms.
  • Nanobot Beacons: Provide powerful, stackable status effects and creative-style flight to players within range.

Materials and Progression#

Progression in Environmental Tech is gated by a series of tiered crystals. Except for the first tier (Litherite), these crystals can only be obtained via a Void Ore Miner. Each tier of machine requires the crystals from the previous tier to construct.

Tiered Crystals

Tier Crystal Name Color Acquisition Method
1 Litherite Green Crafting (Diamond + Flint + Dyes) or Void Miner
2 Erodium Magenta Void Ore Miner (Tier 1+)
3 Kyronite Blue Void Ore Miner (Tier 2+)
4 Pladium Orange Void Ore Miner (Tier 3+)
5 Ionite White/Pink Void Ore Miner (Tier 4+)
6 Aethium Purple/Black Void Ore Miner (Tier 5+)
7+ Lonsdaleite Gray Void Ore Miner (1.16.5+ only)

Special Materials

  • Mica: A translucent material obtained from the Void Resource Miner. It is essential for crafting high-tier modifiers and components in 1.16.5.
  • Structure Frames: The skeleton of every multiblock. They must match or exceed the tier of the controller.
  • Connectors & Interconnects: Basic crafting components used for machine bases and controllers.

Void Miners#

Void Miners are the core of the mod. They require a clear line of sight to bedrock or the void to function. They consume large amounts of FE/t to produce items based on their programmed type.

Miner Types

  1. Void Ore Miner: Generates various ores (Iron, Gold, Diamond, etc.) and ET Crystals.
  2. Void Resource Miner: Generates environmental blocks like Dirt, Sand, Gravel, Clay, and Mica.
  3. Void Botanic Miner: Generates organic materials like Logs, Leaves, Saplings, and Crops.

Construction Requirements

Tier Frames Laser Cores Structure Panels Modifiers
1 24 2 20 0
2 32 3 16 4
3 56 4 52 8
4 56 5 56 12
5 72 6 36 16
6 92 6 56 20

1.16.5 (Environmental Tech 3) Mechanics

In 1.16.5, miners use Flash Memory cards to determine their loot table. You must use a Memory Programmer to load a program (e.g., "Metallic Ore Miner") onto a Flash Memory card and insert it into the Miner Controller.

Lenses and Modifiers

  • Laser Lenses: Placing a colored lens in the miner increases the weight of specific drops (e.g., a Red Lens increases Redstone/Copper yield).
  • Speed/Frequency Modifiers: Increases the speed of the miner at the cost of higher FE/t.
  • Accuracy/Amplification Modifiers: Increases the effectiveness of the installed Laser Lens.
  • Bandwidth Modifiers: Increases the stack size of items produced per operation.

Energy Generation#

Environmental Tech provides two primary ways to generate massive amounts of Forge Energy (FE).

Solar Arrays

Solar Arrays generate power based on the tier of the controller and the quality of the Solar Cells used. They only function during the day and require a clear view of the sky.

Tier Solar Cells Required Structure Frames Modifiers
1 9 16 4
2 25 24 4
3 49 32 8
4 81 40 8
5 121 48 12
6 169 56 12
  • Piezo Modifiers: Allow Solar Arrays to generate a small amount of power from vibrations during rain or storms.

Lightning Rods

Lightning Rods harvest energy from lightning strikes. They are most effective when built at high altitudes in biomes with frequent storms.

  • Tier 1-4: Higher tiers increase the energy stored and the amount of FE generated per strike (up to several million FE).
  • Static Modifiers: Allow the rod to generate passive energy even without a direct lightning strike.

Nanobot Beacons#

Nanobot Beacons provide players with powerful status effects. Unlike vanilla beacons, these effects are highly customizable and can be stacked to reach extreme levels (e.g., Resistance V makes a player nearly immortal).

Available Modifiers

  • Speed / Haste / Strength / Resistance: Standard buffs.
  • Regeneration / Health Boost / Absorption: Survivability buffs.
  • Night Vision / Fire Resistance / Water Breathing / Invisibility: Utility buffs.
  • Flight: Provides creative-style flight (Requires Tier 4+ Beacon).

Mechanics

  • Stacking: Adding multiple modifiers of the same type increases the level of the effect (e.g., 2 Strength modifiers give Strength II).
  • Range: The beacon's range increases with its tier. Personal Beacons can follow the player if bound correctly.

The Assembler#

The Assembler is the essential tool for building all multiblocks in the mod.

  • Usage:
    1. Place the Controller block of the machine you wish to build.
    2. Ensure you have all required blocks (Frames, Panels, Cores, etc.) in your inventory.
    3. Left-Click the Controller with the Assembler to see a list of missing blocks.
    4. Right-Click (or hold Right-Click) the Controller with the Assembler to automatically place blocks from your inventory into the correct positions.

Mechanics and Customization#

Environmental Tech is highly configurable, allowing pack creators and players to add custom drops or programs.

Adding Custom Drops (JSON)

Drops are handled via JSON files located in the mod's configuration folder. A typical drop entry includes:

  • Item: The registry name of the item.
  • Weight: The probability of the item dropping.
  • Lenses: Which colored lenses increase the drop rate.

Custom Programs

In ET3, you can define custom Miner Programs. These programs link specific loot tables to Flash Memory cards, allowing for specialized miners (e.g., a "Nether Ore Miner" or "Gemstone Miner").

Configuration Options

  • Energy Costs: The FE/t consumption of all machines can be adjusted in the config.
  • Recipe Changes: Tiers can be made more or less expensive by modifying the crystal requirements.
