Realistic Torches Mod (1.21.1, 1.20.1) – Don’t Get Left in the Dark

Realistic Torches Mod changes how torches work to make the early game more challenging. Instead of lasting forever, torches will burn out after a certain amount of time. This encourages you to find more permanent light sources, like glowstone, much sooner.

Features:

• Torches are crafted unlit and must be lit with a matchbox or flint and steel.
• A lit torch will burn out and become unlit again after a set time, which is 60 minutes by default.
• Torches placed outside will be extinguished when it rains.
• You can craft permanent torches that never burn out by using glowstone.
• Torches found in vanilla structures like villages and dungeons will be unlit.
• Some items, like glowstone blocks, will emit light when held in your hand.

How to Use:

1. First, craft unlit torches and a matchbox.
2. To light a torch, you can either place it in the world and use flint and steel on it, or combine it with a matchbox in a crafting grid.
3. The lit torch will provide light but will eventually burn out.
4. For a light source that never goes out, craft a permanent torch using glowstone.

Configuration:

You can change several settings in the mod’s config file:

• Adjust how long torches will burn before they go out.
• Enable or disable the handheld light feature.
• Turn off the removal of torch recipes added by other mods.
