Overview#

Aquamirae is an expansive adventure mod and a core component of the Obscuria Collection. It transforms the vanilla Deep Frozen Ocean into a haunting, two-layered environment known as the Ice Maze. The mod focuses on atmospheric storytelling through environmental cues, abandoned structures, and logbooks left behind by ill-fated voyagers.

Players must navigate a world of ice and snow where the ocean has been raised from the depths and frozen in time. Beneath the surface lies a ship graveyard filled with abyssal creatures, while the surface is a labyrinth of ice pillars and pillager outposts. Progression is tied to defeating the spectral Captain Cornelia to unlock the secrets of the Frozen Chest.

Biomes and Structures#

The Ice Maze

The primary biome added by the mod, the Ice Maze, generates over Deep Frozen Oceans. It consists of two distinct layers:

  • Surface: A labyrinth of ice arches, snow-covered pillars, and spiral formations. It is relatively safe during the day but becomes infested with hostile mobs at night.
  • Underwater: A vast space between the ice ceiling and the seabed. This area contains unique flora like Oxygelium and is home to the mod's most dangerous aquatic predators.

Key Structures

Structure Location Description
Ice-Clad Ship Surface Large frozen vessels occupied by Pillagers and Vindicators. The Captain's Cabin contains a Pillager Captain who drops the Shell Horn.
Outpost Surface Massive towers constructed from salvaged ship parts. They serve as Pillager strongholds and contain various loot barrels.
Shelter Underground The largest structure, accessed via long wells on the surface. It contains a single Evoker, numerous Tortured Souls, and the Eel mini-boss.
Campsites Surface Small decorative structures with campfires and minor loot, often guarded by small groups of Pillagers.

Mobs and Creatures#

Passive Mobs

  • Golden Moth: A peaceful ambient creature that spawns at night near ice arches. It drops Gold Nuggets or Ingots and can be captured in a Glass Bottle for decoration.
  • Spinefish: Common skeletal fish found in schools underwater. They are ignored by Anglerfish and drop Raw Spinefish.

Hostile Mobs

  • Anglerfish: Deadly underwater predators. They are fast and aggressive, dropping Angler Fangs, Fins, and Esca.
  • Maw: A terrestrial, jumping fish-like creature that spawns on the surface at night. It drops Fins and occasionally Slime Balls.
  • Tortured Soul: Icy variants of Vindicators found on the surface at night and in Shelters. They can turn invisible, increasing their speed and inflicting Blindness on hit.
  • Pillagers & Vindicators: Found throughout the Ice Maze structures, often guarding loot and the Shell Horn.

Mini-Bosses

  • Mother of the Maze: A massive stingray-like creature that spawns with a 0.5% chance whenever an Anglerfish spawns. It can break the ice surface from below to attack players. It is the primary source of Abyssal Amethyst.
  • Eel: A stationary, high-health mini-boss found exclusively in Shelters. It uses area-of-effect roars and lunging attacks. It is guaranteed to drop the Echo of the Ship Graveyard.

Boss: Captain Cornelia#

The Ghost of Captain Cornelia is the central boss of Aquamirae. She is a spectral entity that guards the secrets of the ship graveyard.

Summoning

To summon Cornelia, players must obtain a Shell Horn from a Pillager Captain on an Ice-Clad Ship. Use the horn while standing near water within the Ice Maze biome.

Combat Phases

  1. Phase 1: Cornelia uses melee attacks and can pull the player toward her or dash forward. She is immune to ranged damage.
  2. Phase 2 (80% HP): She gains the Levitation effect, causing nearby players and mobs to orbit her. She summons three Poison Chakrams that deal contact damage and inflict Poison.
  3. Phase 3 (Low HP): Cornelia will attempt to regenerate health rapidly when below 5-17 HP. To defeat her, players must either:
    • Inflict the Weakness effect on her using a potion before the final blow.
    • Deal a single massive hit (at least 5% of her max HP) using the Terrible Sword.

Drops

  • Frozen Key: Used to open Frozen Chests.
  • Three-Bolt Helmet: A non-craftable helmet required for the Three-Bolt armor set bonus.
  • Coral Lance: A powerful weapon (becomes the Sweet Lance during December/January).
  • Treasure Pouch: Contains various mid-tier loot and emeralds.

Equipment: Armor and Weapons#

Armor Sets

Set Key Materials Special Abilities
Three-Bolt Set Oxygen Tanks, Copper Full set provides Water Breathing and prevents freezing. The helmet is a boss drop.
Terrible Set Platinum, Angler Fangs, Fins Half-set grants +100% swim speed. Full set poisons attackers for 5 seconds.
Blinding Abyss Abyssal Amethyst, Echo Highest protection. One helmet variant delays death for 30s; the other blinds nearby enemies.

Unique Weapons

  • Terrible Sword: High critical hit chance (50% for 3x damage). Deals 1 damage to the wielder if the hit does not kill the target. Ignores armor.
  • Whisper of the Abyss: Reduces the target's armor by 10% per hit (stacks up to 5 times).
  • Coral Lance: Deals double damage to all creatures within the Ice Maze biome.
  • Divider: Reduces the target's maximum health by 5% per hit (stacks up to 10 times).
  • Remnant Saber: Deals double damage while the wielder is underwater.
  • Dagger of Greed: Causes Villagers and Illagers to drop Emeralds when hit. Cannot be repaired and may inflict Bad Omen on the user.

Items and Materials#

Materials

  • Abyssal Amethyst: Dropped by the Mother of the Maze. Used for high-tier Abyssal gear.
  • Echo of the Ship Graveyard: Dropped by Eels and the Mother of the Maze. Used to repair most Aquamirae equipment. Holding it plays ambient Ice Maze sounds.
  • Rune of the Storm: Found in Frozen Chests. Can be applied to any weapon to increase damage by 33% while in cold biomes.
  • Frozen Key: Dropped by Captain Cornelia; the only way to open Frozen Chests.

Consumables

  • Sea Stew: Grants Water Breathing, Dolphin's Grace, and Strength.
  • Poseidon's Breakfast: An upgraded Sea Stew that significantly boosts ability power and reduces cooldowns.
  • Scroll of the Dead Sea: Provides a random effect, ranging from powerful buffs to instant death or teleportation.

Plants and Blocks#

Flora

  • Oxygelium: An underwater plant that provides a brief Water Breathing effect when touched. Non-renewable.
  • Wisteria Nivas: A surface bush used to craft Green Dye. Drops sticks and snowballs when broken.
  • Elodea: Underwater plant used to craft Cyan Dye.

Blocks

  • Frozen Chest: Found in Shelters and Ships. Unbreakable and unopenable without a Frozen Key. Contains the mod's rarest loot, including the Rune of the Storm.
  • Luminescent Lamp: An underwater light source and decoration.
  • Luminescent Bubble: A floating light source that increases the swimming speed of nearby players.

Mechanics and Progression#

Progression Path

  1. Exploration: Locate the Ice Maze biome and scavenge surface ships for a Shell Horn.
  2. Preparation: Craft Terrible Armor or Three-Bolt Suit (Chestplate) to survive the freezing waters and increase mobility.
  3. The Boss: Summon and defeat Captain Cornelia to obtain the Three-Bolt Helmet and the Frozen Key.
  4. The Deep: Use the Three-Bolt set to explore the underwater Shelters and open the Frozen Chests to obtain the Rune of the Storm.

Oxygen and Freezing

The waters of the Ice Maze are lethally cold. Without the Three-Bolt Helmet or full Three-Bolt Armor, players will take freezing damage and lose oxygen rapidly. Oxygelium plants serve as temporary air stations for those without proper diving gear.
