Overview#
Cinderscapes is a world-generation mod designed to enhance the Nether dimension by adding rich, thematic biomes that remain faithful to the vanilla Minecraft aesthetic. Developed by the TerraformersMC team, the mod focuses on environmental variety, providing players with new challenges and building materials without deviating from the core 'hellish' atmosphere of the Nether.
The mod introduces five primary biomes: the Blackstone Shales, Luminous Grove, Quartz Canyon, Sulfurous Pits, and Withered Wastes. Each biome features custom flora, unique blocks, and specific resource nodes like Sulfur and Rose Quartz. All wood types added by the mod are fire-resistant, making them ideal for construction within the Nether.
Biomes#
Cinderscapes adds five unique biomes to the Nether's generation. These biomes are integrated into the standard Nether noise generator, ensuring they blend seamlessly with vanilla biomes like the Crimson Forest or Soul Sand Valley.
Blackstone Shales
A dark, rugged biome dominated by massive formations of Blackstone and Polished Blackstone. The terrain is often jagged, featuring steep cliffs and deep ravines. It is a primary source for Blackstone-related building materials.
- Primary Blocks: Blackstone, Gilded Blackstone, Basalt.
- Atmosphere: Dark, oppressive, and rocky.
Luminous Grove
A bioluminescent forest that stands in stark contrast to the rest of the Nether. It is filled with Scorched Trees and glowing vegetation. The fog in this biome has a distinct teal hue.
- Primary Blocks: Scorched Stems, Shroomlights, Luminous Fungus.
- Atmosphere: Ethereal, glowing, and vibrant.
Quartz Canyon
A bright, crystalline biome characterized by towering pillars of Quartz and Rose Quartz. The ground is often covered in Smooth Quartz and white sand-like blocks, making it one of the brightest areas in the Nether.
- Primary Blocks: Nether Quartz Ore, Rose Quartz Ore, Smooth Quartz.
- Atmosphere: Sharp, bright, and crystalline.
Sulfurous Pits
A hazardous biome filled with yellow fog and deposits of Sulfur. The terrain is composed of Sulfurous Rock, which has a distinct yellowish-green tint. Players should be cautious of the environmental hazards and the dense fog that limits visibility.
- Primary Blocks: Sulfurous Rock, Sulfur Ore.
- Atmosphere: Toxic, hazy, and volcanic.
Withered Wastes
A desolate, ash-strewn wasteland that serves as the home for Umbra Trees. The ground is a mix of Soul Sand and Withered Rock. This biome is frequently populated by Wither Skeletons, making it a dangerous location for unprepared travelers.
- Primary Blocks: Umbra Stems, Soul Sand, Withered Rock.
- Atmosphere: Ashy, grey, and decaying.
Blocks#
The mod introduces several new block sets, primarily focused on wood and decorative stone.
Wood Types
Cinderscapes adds two main wood types, both of which are fire-resistant and come with a full set of sub-blocks (stairs, slabs, fences, etc.).
| Wood Type | Source Biome | Color Palette | Properties |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scorched | Luminous Grove | Dark Teal / Cyan | Fire-resistant, glowing accents |
| Umbra | Withered Wastes | Dark Grey / Purple | Fire-resistant, muted tones |
Minerals and Rocks
| Block | Description | Drops |
|---|---|---|
| Sulfur Ore | Found in Sulfurous Pits. | Sulfur Dust |
| Rose Quartz Ore | Found in Quartz Canyon. | Rose Quartz Shards |
| Sulfurous Rock | The primary surface block of Sulfurous Pits. | Itself (or Cobbled variant) |
| Withered Rock | Found in Withered Wastes. | Itself |
| Rose Quartz Block | A decorative pink quartz block. | Itself |
Items#
Items in Cinderscapes are primarily used for crafting and decoration.
- Sulfur Dust: Harvested from Sulfur Ore. Its primary use is the creation of Gunpowder without needing to hunt Creepers or Ghasts.
- Rose Quartz Shard: Harvested from Rose Quartz Ore. Used to craft Rose Quartz blocks, pillars, and other decorative variants.
- Music Disc (Cinder): A rare music disc that can sometimes be found in Nether structures or as a rare drop, featuring a unique track composed for the mod.
- Luminous Fungus: A decorative plant found in the Luminous Grove that emits a low level of light.
Mobs#
Cinderscapes focuses on biome generation and does not add entirely new entity types in version 26.1.2. Instead, it modifies the spawn weights of vanilla mobs to fit the new environments:
- Wither Skeletons: Have significantly higher spawn rates in the Withered Wastes.
- Piglins and Hoglins: Commonly found in the Luminous Grove.
- Striders: Frequently spawn in the lava pools surrounding the Sulfurous Pits.
- Ghasts: More common in the open spaces of the Quartz Canyon.
Recipes#
The following are the unique crafting recipes introduced by Cinderscapes.

Mechanics and Configuration#
World Generation
Cinderscapes utilizes the standard Minecraft biome source. It is compatible with other Nether biome mods like BetterNether or Incendium, though biome weights may need adjustment in the config file to ensure a balanced distribution.
Configuration
The mod provides a configuration file (typically located in /config/cinderscapes.json or via Mod Menu) that allows players to:
- Toggle specific biomes on or off.
- Adjust the rarity/weight of biomes.
- Enable or disable specific features like the Sulfur-to-Gunpowder recipe.
- Configure the density of the fog in the Sulfurous Pits.
