Overhauled Village Wiki

Biome-specific villages and pillager outposts: what generates, where, and how to find it.

7 sections · 402 words

Overview#

Overhauled Village replaces the buildings inside Minecraft's villages with hand-built designs that match the biome around them, and gives pillager outposts the same treatment.

Villages keep their vanilla mechanics: villagers, workstations, job sites, trading, breeding, raids and the bell all behave normally. Only the buildings and layout change.

Village Types#

Each biome family has its own set of houses, materials and decoration:

Biome Style
Plains Timber-framed houses with tall roofs and gardens
Desert Sandstone blocks with flat roofs and shaded walkways
Savanna Acacia frames with open porches
Taiga / Snowy Heavy spruce beams, steep snow-shedding roofs
Jungle Raised platforms and bamboo detailing
Swamp Stilted houses over the water
Badlands / Mesa Terracotta walls and layered roofs
Beach Light wood and sand-toned huts
Dark Forest Dense dark-oak structures
Mountain Stone-heavy builds cut into slopes

Pillager Outposts#

The mod adds a dedicated outpost for each biome: badlands, beach, dark forest, desert, jungle, mesa, mountain, plains, savanna, snowy, swamp and taiga.

They spawn in the same places vanilla outposts do and keep the usual pillager patrols and loot.

Finding a Village#

Villages generate only in newly generated chunks — an existing world keeps its old villages until you travel to fresh land.

With cheats on you can jump straight to one:

/locate structure minecraft:village_plains
/locate structure minecraft:village_desert
/locate structure minecraft:village_savanna
/locate structure minecraft:village_taiga
/locate structure minecraft:village_snowy

For the mod's outposts, use its own IDs:

/locate structure ctov:pillager_outpost_plains
/locate structure ctov:pillager_outpost_desert
/locate structure ctov:pillager_outpost_savanna
/locate structure ctov:pillager_outpost_taiga

Requirements#

The mod needs the Lithostitched worldgen library to run. Install it alongside this mod; without it the game will not start.

Lithostitched is what lets the new buildings be added to the village pools without overwriting vanilla files, which keeps the mod compatible with other worldgen content.

Compatibility#

  • Existing worlds are safe: already-generated chunks are left alone.
  • Villager trading, professions and raids are untouched.
  • The mod ships built-in compatibility for other village-related content, applied only when that content is installed.
  • Because villages are injected into pools rather than replacing vanilla files, other worldgen mods can add to the same pools.

Tips#

  • Travel a few thousand blocks from spawn in an old world to reach fresh chunks with the new villages.
  • Buildings are larger than vanilla, so give villagers room when moving beds or workstations.
  • Outposts are noticeably tougher to approach in open biomes — check the roofs before jumping in.
