Overview#

SevTech: Ages is a comprehensive Minecraft modpack (version 1.12.2) designed to provide a long-term progression experience. Unlike traditional modpacks where all content is available from the start, SevTech utilizes the Game Stages API to dynamically hide items, recipes, ores, and even mobs until the player has reached the appropriate 'Age'.

The pack features a custom world generation system via Geolosys, which replaces standard ore generation with large, realistic mineral veins. Players must use primitive tools and survival techniques in the early game, eventually advancing through the Bronze Age, Medieval Age, Industrial Age, and finally into the Modern and Futuristic Ages where space travel and creative-tier items become available.

Progression Mechanics#

The core of SevTech is its progression system. Advancing through the pack requires completing specific 'Advancements' found in the 'L' menu.

Game Stages

Items and blocks are locked behind stages. If you pick up an item you haven't unlocked, it will appear as 'Unfamiliar Item' and cannot be used or crafted. Similarly, ores in the world will appear as standard stone until the correct age is reached.

The Antique Atlas

Standard mini-maps and world maps are disabled. Players must craft and use the Antique Atlas, a book-based mapping system that requires manual exploration and marking.

Nutrition System

Players must manage five nutritional categories: Grain, Fruit, Vegetable, Protein, and Dairy. Maintaining high levels in these categories provides health and toughness buffs, while neglect leads to reduced maximum health.

Age 0: The Stone Age#

Age 0 focuses on primitive survival. Players start with nothing and must gather materials from the environment. There is no traditional Crafting Table; instead, players use the Workstump.

Key Features:

  • Flint Tools: Created by smashing flint against stone to get flint shards.
  • The Workstump: A 3x3 crafting area that requires a Crafting Rock to process recipes.
  • Totemic: A mod used for rituals that provide buffs and allow for the creation of early-game items like the Cedar Tree.
  • Fire Pit & Grill: Used for cooking food. Traditional furnaces are unavailable.
  • Pit Kiln: Used to fire clay items like the Clay Bucket and Unfired Bricks.

Essential Items:

Item Purpose
Flint Hatchet Basic wood cutting tool.
Grass Fiber Obtained by breaking tall grass; used for string.
Fire Stick Used to light fires and the Pit Kiln.
Dowsing Rod Used to locate ore veins hidden underground.

Age 1: The Bronze Age#

In Age 1, players unlock the ability to see and mine Copper and Tin. This age introduces early metallurgy and dark magic.

Key Features:

  • Melter: A primitive version of the Tinkers' Construct Smeltery used to melt down ores into liquid metal.
  • AbyssalCraft: Players must explore the dark arts to progress, eventually summoning Shoggoths to obtain Shoggoth Flesh.
  • Blood Magic: Introduced as an alternative progression path for powerful tools and rituals.
  • Immersive Engineering (Early): Access to the Coke Oven for producing Creosote Oil and Coal Coke.

Metallurgy:

Players can now create Bronze by alloying Copper and Tin. This allows for more durable tools and the construction of the first metal-based machinery.

Age 2: The Medieval Age#

Age 2 expands into mysticism and advanced tool forging. Players gain access to Iron and the ability to travel to other dimensions.

Key Features:

  • Astral Sorcery: A magic mod based on the power of the stars. Players build large marble structures to harness starlight for crafting.
  • The Betweenlands: A swampy, dangerous dimension that players must enter to find specific resources like Middle Gems and Octine.
  • Tinkers' Construct: The full Smeltery becomes available, allowing for custom tool creation with various traits.
  • Iron Age: Iron ores (Hematite, Magnetite, Limonite) become visible and mineable.

Age 3: The Industrial Age#

Age 3 marks the beginning of true automation and the use of electricity. Steel becomes the primary resource.

Key Features:

  • Immersive Engineering: The primary mod for this age. Players build massive multi-block machines like the Crusher, Excavator, and Distillation Tower.
  • Modular Machinery: Custom-built machines for processing ores and creating advanced alloys.
  • Industrial Foregoing: Early plastic production and mob farming automation.
  • PneumaticCraft: Repressurized: Utilizing air pressure to power tools and drones.

Age 4: The Modern Age#

Age 4 introduces digital storage, advanced chemistry, and the first steps into space exploration.

Key Features:

  • Applied Energistics 2: Digital storage systems for managing the massive amount of resources collected.
  • Galacticraft: Players build rockets to travel to the Moon and Mars to gather Tier-specific ores like Desh and Meteoric Iron.
  • RFTools: Advanced technology for teleportation and world manipulation.
  • Plastic & Circuits: The manufacturing of advanced electronics becomes the core gameplay loop.

Age 5: The Futuristic Age#

Age 5 is the endgame of SevTech. It focuses on interstellar travel and the pursuit of 'Creative' tier items.

Key Features:

  • Advanced Rocketry: Building custom spaceships to explore distant star systems.
  • Draconic Evolution: Extremely powerful armor and tools, along with high-tier energy storage.
  • Creative Items: The ultimate goal is to craft items like the Creative Tank or Creative Jetpack, which require massive amounts of resources from every previous age.

World Generation & Ores#

SevTech uses Geolosys for ore generation. Ores do not spawn as individual blocks but as massive veins that can span several chunks.

Ore Vein Identification

Players must look for Samples on the surface. These are small rocks that indicate a large vein of the corresponding ore is directly below.

Vein Type Ores Included Y-Level Range
Iron Hematite, Magnetite, Limonite 30 - 60
Copper Malachite, Azurite, Chalcopyrite 40 - 90
Coal Lignite, Bituminous, Anthracite 50 - 120
Tin Cassiterite 40 - 100
Gold Gold 5 - 40
Redstone Cinnabar, Realgar 10 - 40
Diamond Kimberlite 5 - 20

Mobs & Entities#

Mobs in SevTech are gated by Age. Some mobs will not even spawn until the player has reached a certain level of progression.

Unique Mobs

Lesser Shoggoth (AbyssalCraft)

  • Spawn: Near Shoggoth Lairs in Age 1+.
  • Behavior: Hostile, builds 'Ooze' blocks that can transform the terrain. They are required for progression as they produce Shoggoth Flesh.
  • Health: 100

Swamp Hag (The Betweenlands)

  • Spawn: The Betweenlands dimension (Age 2).
  • Drops: Slimy Bone, Hag Finger.
  • Health: 40

Evolved Zombie (Galacticraft)

  • Spawn: Moon and other planets (Age 4).
  • Behavior: Faster and stronger than normal zombies; does not burn in sunlight.
  • Health: 30

Key Blocks & Items#

The Workstump

The Workstump is the Age 0 crafting station. To use it:

  1. Place items in the 3x3 grid by right-clicking.
  2. Hold a Crafting Rock in your hand.
  3. Shift + Right-click the stump to craft the item.

The Grill

Used in Age 0 to cook food. It must be placed over a Fire Pit. It can cook up to two items at once.

The Dowsing Rod

A tool that vibrates when held over a specific ore vein. It is essential for finding ores before advanced scanners are unlocked in Age 3.

Commands & Configuration#

SevTech includes several administrative commands to manage progression and stages.

  • /gamestage add <player> <stage>: Manually grants a player a specific age or progression stage.
  • /gamestage remove <player> <stage>: Removes a stage from a player.
  • /advancement grant <player>...: Used to fix progression issues if an advancement fails to trigger.
  • /flush_map: Clears the Antique Atlas data (use with caution).

Configuration

The pack is highly configured via CraftTweaker scripts. Most recipes are modified to fit the progression curve, meaning standard Minecraft recipes will often not work.
