Shield Expansion Mod (1.20.1, 1.19.2) focuses on enhancing one of the primary defensive tools in the game—the shield. The goal is to introduce different types of shields made from various materials, bringing dynamism and versatility to Minecraft’s combat system. Beyond just crafting shields from different materials—each offering unique defensive stats—the mod also adds two new defensive mechanics: Off-Guard Cooldown and Parrying.

Features:

Off-Guard Cooldown

  • Allows players to block enemy strikes with their shield but introduces a cooldown period after blocking, preventing instant reuse. This forces players to switch to offense after defending. The cooldown time depends on the shield material—Netherite shields recover the fastest, while wooden shields take the longest.

Parrying

  • Enables players to block an attack by raising the shield before impact, pushing the attacker backward.
  • Parrying with wood or gold shields inflicts minor damage on the enemy.
  • Parrying with iron, diamond, or Netherite shields not only causes damage but also reflects part of the incoming attack back at the enemy.
  • Additionally, parrying ignores cooldown restrictions and allows players to block projectiles.
