Better Than Mending Mod (26.2, 1.20.1) – Repair Item by Experience
Better Than Mending Mod makes one change to the Mending enchantment: sneak and right click a Mending item in your hand and it spends the XP you are already carrying to patch itself up on the spot. Vanilla Mending only trickles durability back when orbs happen to drop nearby, so a favourite pickaxe can sit half broken for hours of play. Here you pick the moment, and the levels come straight out of your own bar.

Features:
- Sneak and right click any item holding Mending to pour your banked levels into it right away.
- When several pieces of gear qualify, the one with the least durability left gets patched first.
- Three levels of the enchantment ship by default, and a higher level trades your levels for more durability.
- Unbreaking is kept apart from Mending by default, the same way the mod author balanced it.
- Infinity and Mending are allowed on the same bow, which vanilla normally refuses.
- A config file lets you change the level count, the trade rates and which enchantments may sit together.
- Tools, weapons, armour and an elytra are all handled the same way.
- Nothing new is added to the creative menu, so the mod stays invisible until you use it.
How to Use:
- Install Fabric, Forge or NeoForge for your Minecraft version.
- Move the jar into
.minecraft/modsand start the game. - Get Mending onto an item, either from an enchanting table, from a book on an anvil, or by trading with a librarian.
- Hold that item, hold your sneak key and right click. The durability bar climbs while your level counter drops.
- Keep going until the bar is full or your levels run out, then carry on playing.
- Open the mod’s config file if you would rather change the trade rate or allow Unbreaking alongside Mending.
