Via Backwards Mod is an add-on for the ViaVersion plugin that enables older Minecraft clients (starting from 1.9) to connect to newer server versions. It’s a vital tool for server administrators who want to support a wider range of players without forcing everyone to update their game.

Features:

  • Lets clients from Minecraft 1.9 and up join servers running newer versions (e.g., 1.20+).
  • Converts newer server packets into formats readable by older clients.
  • Older clients won’t gain access to new blocks, items, or mechanics-they’ll just avoid crashing.
  • Sound mappings may be incomplete
  • Inventory desyncs can occur on versions below 1.17
  • Clients below 1.19.4 may not use the smithing table on 1.20+ servers (can be fixed with AxSmithing)
