Minecraft has achieved an astounding level of success. The recently disclosed figures by Mojang shed light on the extent of this success. During a live stream to reveal upcoming features in Minecraft’s 1.21 version, expected to be released in 2024, Mojang announced two impressive statistics:

  1. 300 Million Copies Sold: Minecraft has sold a staggering 300 million copies. This figure underscores the game’s immense popularity, making it one of the best-selling video games ever. It’s a testament to the game’s universal appeal and enduring player base.
  2. 15 Years of Existence: Minecraft is celebrating its 15th anniversary. The fact that the game has thrived for a decade and a half highlights its ability to remain relevant and engaging to players over an extended period.

These numbers not only showcase the game’s undeniable success but also speak to its cultural impact and enduring appeal in the gaming world. Minecraft continues to captivate players with its creative and open-world gameplay.

To commemorate these remarkable milestones, Mojang has released some incredibly impressive statistics about what gamers worldwide have been doing on a daily basis. These numbers are calculated from September 2023 to October 2023:

  • 15 million Skeletons have been defeated by players.
  • Gamers have travelled a combined distance of 915,000 blocks on pigback – equivalent to 915 km.
  • 7 million diamonds have been mined.
  • 400,000 wolves have been tamed.
  • 8 million homes have been crafted.
  • And… no one is laughing at creepers.

In addition to the obviously playful last statistic, the first five figures clearly indicate the extent to which 300 million Minecraft players are diligently exploring the game. This doesn’t even account for the enormous number of players engaging in unofficial versions of the game. If you’re also playing the legitimate version of Minecraft, these numbers are, in part, a contribution from your endeavors.
