Minecraft 1.21.6 Snapshot 25w18a – Leads Easier to Craft
Minecraft 1.21.6 Snapshot 25w18a introduces several important changes, including a simplified crafting recipe for leads, an update to the effect of splash potions, and further adjustments to the withered ghast block. At the same time, the developers have also integrated a new version of the Unifont font, offering more options for content creators. As always, this update comes with a series of bug fixes and technical improvements.
Features:
Adjustments to Splash Potions
The mechanics of splash potions have been updated to make their use more consistent:
- The strength of the potion’s effect now depends on the distance between the impact point and the hitbox of nearby entities.
- An entity directly hit by the potion will receive the maximum effect.
- If multiple entities are grouped together, they will receive the same level of effect, calculated based on their proximity to the impact.
In-game impact: This change rewards more accurate potion throws and enhances the strategic use of potions in both combat and exploration scenarios.
New Lead Recipe
Good news for players who frequently use leads to capture or move animals:
- Slimeballs have been removed from the crafting recipe.
- They are now replaced by string, which is much easier to obtain.
In-game impact: This makes leads far more accessible early in the game, especially in worlds where slimes are rare.
Changes to the Dried Ghast Block
The Dried Ghast Block also receives a few updates:
- Piglins can now offer dried ghast blocks during bartering.
- The crafting recipe has changed: it now requires a soul sand block instead of a bone block.
New Recipe: 1 Soul Sand Block + 8 Ghast Tears = 1 Dried Ghast Block
In-game impact: These changes make it easier to obtain the dried ghast block while reinforcing its connection to the Nether environment.
Unifont Update
The font used for certain special characters in the game, Unifont, has been updated to version 16.0.03:
- This update adds support for glyphs from Unifont’s Private Use Areas.
- Creators can now use alternative writing systems like Tengwar or Sitelen Pona.
In-game impact: This opens new creative possibilities for adventure maps, custom servers, and creative projects involving fictional or alternative scripts.

Snapshot 25w18a includes 18 bug fixes affecting various aspects of the game. Some of the most notable include:
