Minecraft 1.21.6 Snapshot 25w20a introduces several exciting features, including a new crafting recipe for saddles, long-awaited by the community. A new music disc, “Tears,” composed by Amos Roddy, can be obtained from Ghast loot. Five new ambient tracks by Roddy enhance biomes like Cherry Groves, Forest, Desert, Grove, and Lush Caves, with titles like “Below and Above” and “Broken,” alongside fresh menu music. The snapshot also updates the game’s panorama, adjusts lead crafting recipes, and tweaks loot tables in preparation for the 1.21.6 update, marking the final snapshot before the second major update of 2025.

Additions and Changes

Music
  • Added the Tears music disc, composed by Amos Roddy, obtained when a Ghast is killed by its own fireball reflected by a player.
  • Added five new background tracks, also by Amos Roddy:
    • Below and Above (Cherry Groves)
    • Broken Clocks (Forest)
    • Fireflies (Desert)
    • Lilypad (Grove & Frozen Peaks)
    • O’s Piano (Lush Caves)

    These tracks also play on the title screen.

  • All six tracks are available on streaming platforms like Spotify and YouTube.
  • New music and sound options:
    • Music Frequency: Allows choosing how often music plays, with options “Constant,” “Frequent,” or “Default” (standard frequency).
    • Music Toasts: Displays the track name and composer when music starts. When enabled, the current track is shown in the top-left corner of the pause menu.
  • Music now plays even when the game is paused.
Saddles
  • Saddles can now be crafted.
  • Saddles, horse armor, harnesses, and carpets can be removed from equipped mobs using shears, except when a player is riding, crouching, or on ravager saddles. Dispensers with shears cannot remove them.
  • Saddles are no longer found in chests in dungeons, ancient cities, desert pyramids, jungle temples, or stronghold altars; 1–5 leather units replace them.
Other
  • Added title screen texts: “Music by Aaron Cherof!”, “Music by Kumi Tanioka!”, “Music by Amos Roddy!”, “Flint and Steel!”, and “Chicken Jockey!”.
  • Fog now affects 3D HUD elements like first-person hands and held items.
  • Rainy and stormy weather is less foggy, with reduced fog impact indoors.
  • Withered Ghasts are no longer damaged by flowing water.
  • Partially reverted MC-3697: Hanging decorative entities (paintings, item frames) are immune to submerged TNT explosions, but items and armor stands are vulnerable again.
  • Added Realms logo to Realms loading screens and region info during Realm connection.
  • Updated the title screen panorama to reflect this game drop.

  • Command syntax reports now include required permission levels.
  • Data Pack Version 77:
    • Added optional can_be_sheared and shearing_sound fields to the equippable item component.
    • Ghasts now have a flying_speed attribute affecting flight speed.
    • Added experimental simple dialog box display for users, stored in the minecraft:dialog registry or defined inline (see official post for details).
    • Added custom click_event action type for text components.
    • Users are prompted to confirm commands from run_command actions in books or chat if the command is unparsable or requires elevated permissions (above 0).
