Minecraft 1.21.9 Snapshot 25w33a introduces purple flashing lights in The End. Iron Golems can place a poppy on the Copper Golem’s head, removable with shears. Shelves are improved, displaying items centered instead of at the bottom. The chat interface saves message drafts when interrupted and supports opening while passing through a Nether Portal. Offline players in a server still appear on the Social Interactions screen.

General

Chat Drafts

  • Unsent chat messages are saved as drafts if chat is forcibly closed (e.g., by dying or opening a dialog).
  • Drafts are pre-filled in the chat box when reopened, appearing grayed-out until restored.
  • Draft text is restored by typing, moving the cursor, clicking, or highlighting it.
  • Pressing Enter sends the draft as a normal message; Backspace deletes it.

End Flash

  • The End now has skylight, which normally doesn’t affect its appearance.
  • Occasional sky flashes increase skylight intensity, flooding The End with purple light.

Options

  • Added a Chat Settings option to save unsent messages as drafts, even if chat is intentionally closed.

Sounds

  • Added weather.end_flash sound events.

Tags

  • Added #shearable_from_copper_golem item tag for items removable from Copper Golem’s head with shears.

Textures

  • Added environment/end_flash.png texture.

  • run_command click event: Commands requiring signed messages (e.g., /say, /msg) now show a screen to insert into chat or copy to clipboard if chat is unavailable.

Block States

  • Added align_items_to_bottom property for shelves:
    • false (default): Items align to the middle, ignoring on_shelf vertical translation.
    • true: Items align upward from the bottom, respecting on_shelf vertical translation.

Chat

  • Chat can now be started inside a Nether Portal.
  • Chat remains open and unchanged when transferring between dimensions.

Data Pack

  • Pack format version updated to 83.1.
  • Added on_shelf display transform for items on shelves.

Enchantment Definition

  • explode entity effects:
    • New block_particles field for per-block particles, chosen by weight.
    • Format includes weight, particle type, scaling, and speed (optional, defaults to 1.0).

Resource Pack

  • Version updated to 65.2.

Social Interactions

  • Players in the server’s game world are shown in Social Interactions, even if offline.

Fixes

30 issues fixed, including:

  • Chat UI no longer clears when killed (MC-26334).
  • Fixed spectator mode issues with shaders, fishing, and bed interactions.
  • Resolved server crash with custom structures containing shelves (MC-300739).
  • Added missing translation for copper wall torch (MC-300746).

Trivia

  • The End flash was inspired by Bedrock Edition’s Vibrant Visuals feature.
