Minecraft PTGI Shaders (1.21.8, 1.20.1) uses Iris, integrating Path Traced Global Illumination (PTGI) and Spatiotemporal Variance Guided Filtering (SVGF) for noise reduction and image reconstruction, delivering realistic lighting effects.

Features:

  • Path traced global illumination (PTGI)
  • Spatiotemporal variance guided filtering (SVGF)
  • Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA)
  • Temporal reprojection & motion buffers
  • Upscaling
  • Motion blur
  • Sky
  • Volumetric clouds
  • Day/night cycle
  • Bloom
  • Weather and raining
  • Animated vegetation
  • Color grading
  • Tonemapping
  • Gamma correction

How it works:

  • Path Tracing: Computes lighting by tracing rays through the scene, using voxelization (converting the 3D world into a 2D texture) via the shadow pass to store block data.
  • SVGF: Filters noise in the global illumination buffer (excluding textures) to produce a smooth image.
  • TAA: Eliminates aliasing artifacts at the final stage of the pipeline.
