Overview#

Grimoire of Gaia 3 is a massive expansion for Minecraft that focuses on adding high-quality, anime-inspired mobs and monster girls to the game. It is designed to provide a greater challenge for players using powerful modpacks, introducing a tiered difficulty system, unique combat mechanics like damage caps, and a variety of RPG-style loot. The mod adds over 40 new entities, each with custom models, AI, and abilities, alongside a robust trading system and powerful magical artifacts.

Mob Mechanics#

The mod categorizes its creatures into three distinct Tiers (Levels), each with standardized base statistics. This ensures that players can gauge the threat level of a mob based on its classification.

Tier Statistics

Tier Health (HP) Attack Damage Armor Points Experience Damage Cap
Level 1 40 (20 Hearts) 8 (4 Hearts) 4 (2 Armor) 10 2 Hits
Level 2 80 (40 Hearts) 12 (6 Hearts) 8 (4 Armor) 25 4 Hits
Level 3 160 (80 Hearts) 16 (8 Hearts) 16 (8 Armor) 50 8 Hits

Damage Cap

To prevent players with extremely high-damage modded weapons from trivializing encounters, Grimoire of Gaia 3 implements a Damage Cap. This mechanic limits the maximum damage a mob can take in a single hit. For example, a Level 1 mob requires at least 2 hits to kill, regardless of the weapon's strength.

Spawning Rules

  • Day Spawning: Unlike vanilla hostile mobs, many Gaia mobs spawn during the day. They require a light level greater than 7 and a clear view of the sky. They primarily spawn on Grass, Dirt, Gravel, Sand, and Snow.
  • Night Spawning: Follows standard vanilla spawning rules (light level < 7).
  • Biome Specificity: Mobs are tied to specific biomes (e.g., Harpies in Deserts, Mermaids in Oceans).
  • Protection Talisman: A craftable block that prevents Gaia mobs from spawning in an 8x8x8 area around it.
