This Minecraft tutorial explains how to use the /daylock command with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

You can lock or unlock the Day-Night cycle using the /daylock command in Minecraft. This command is a shortcut to change the dodaylightcycle game rule (as an alternative to using the /gamerule command). Let’s explore how to use this cheat (game command).

Requirements

To run game commands in Minecraft, you have to turn cheats on in your world.

DayLock Command

DayLock Command in Minecraft Pocket Edition (PE)

In Minecraft Pocket Edition (PE), the /daylock command has different syntaxes depending on whether you want to lock or unlock the Day-Night cycle.

To lock the Day-Night cycle so that time stops at the current moment:

/daylock true

To unlock the Day-Night cycle so that time advances again normally:

/daylock false

Examples

Example in Pocket Edition (PE)

To lock the Day-Night cycle (freeze time) and then change the time to day in Minecraft PE:

/daylock true
/time set day

To unlock the Day-Night cycle so that time advances again:

/daylock false

How to Enter the Command

1. Open the Chat Window

The easiest way to run a command in Minecraft is within the chat window. The game control to open the chat window depends on the version of Minecraft:

  • For Pocket Edition (PE), tap on the chat button  at the top of the screen.
  • For Xbox One, press the D-Pad (right)  on the controller.
  • For PS4, press the D-Pad (right)  on the controller.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press the right arrow button  on the controller.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, press the T key to open the chat window.
  • For Education Edition, press the T key to open the chat window.

2. Type the Command

To stop time at the current moment so that the Day-Night cycle no longer advances, you would need to type the following command:

/daylock true

Type the command in the chat window. As you are typing, you will see the command appear in the lower left corner of the game window. Press the Enter key to run the command.

Once the cheat has been entered, time will freeze.

You will see the message “Day-Night cycle locked” appear in the top left corner of the game window to indicate that the command has successfully completed. Time will now be stopped and no longer advance. Because you are stopped at a particular moment in time, you will need to use the /time command to change the time to day, night, dawn, etc.

TIP: The /daylock command is a shortcut for the /gamerule command.

For example:

/daylock true is equivalent to /gamerule dodaylightcycle false command.
/daylock false is equivalent to /gamerule dodaylightcycle true command.

Congratulations, you have learned how to use the /daylock command in Minecraft.
