Like any other mineral like diamond, iron, gold, etc, copper is also a mineral. You can mine them, smelt them, and craft ingots and blocks – like you do with the other minerals in Minecraft. But unfortunately, you cannot craft armor, tools and weapons using copper like you do with other minerals. The Copper Equipment mod brings a solution to this deficiency. Copper Equipment Mod (1.20.4, 1.19.4) adds copper variants to all armor pieces, weapons and tools. You can craft them using the vanilla copper ingots and use them in the game. There is even a copper variant for horse armor. The crafting recipes are the same as the other vanilla items.
