Doggo Mod Overhauled Mod (1.20.2, 1.20.1) is a Minecraft mod that just makes dogs better. An updated, completely rewritten version of the Doggo mod that focuses on improving dogs. Now dogs will have new mechanics, lots of new animations, dog bowls they can eat from, and a small tennis ball to play with.

Blocks and Items

This mod adds several dog-related decorative and functional blocks and items:

  • Dog Beds: 176 variants (16 colors × 11 wood types)
  • Dog Bowls: 16 differently colored variants
  • Tennis Balls: 4 differently colored variants

Dog Bed

Currently, the dog bed is a decorative block. Functional behavior may be added in a future update.

Dog Bowl

  • Any dog with low health will eat from a nearby dog bowl if it contains food.
  • You can rename a dog bowl using an anvil. Only dogs with a matching name will eat from that bowl.
  • Requires at least a stone pickaxe to break.

Tennis Ball

  • A small toy for your dog to play with.
  • You can throw it by right-clicking.
  • Be careful when using it near glass panes, as the ball may break them.

Behavior and Personality

Breeding

Dog breeding mechanics are adjusted by the mod. To breed dogs:

  • Sneak while holding meat in your hand.
  • Right-click two dogs to make them breed.

Healing

There are two main ways to heal a dog:

  1. Dog Bowl Healing:
    • Place down a dog bowl.
    • Put food (preferably meat) into the bowl by right-clicking it.
    • If a dog is near the bowl and not at maximum health, it will try to eat from it.
  2. Direct Feeding:
    • Right-click a dog with food (preferably meat).
    • The dog will hold the food in its mouth and eat it whenever it wants to.

Holding an Item

  • A dog can hold an item in its mouth at any time.
  • Dogs prefer food over weapons if both are available.

Napping

  • If you leave a dog sitting and walk away, it may lay down and take a nap.

Playing Fetch

Simply throwing the ball is not enough to start fetch. To play fetch:

  1. Show the ball to the dog to make it interested.
  2. Once the dog is interested, throw the ball so it will run after it.

Playing in Snow

  • When near snow, a dog may decide to play in the snow for fun.

Scratching Its Ear

  • From time to time, a dog may scratch its ear as a natural idle animation.

Sniffing and Digging

  • From time to time, a dog may sniff the ground.
  • If it thinks it has found something, it will start digging.
  • The dog may uncover small treasures, though expecting diamonds or netherite is unrealistic.

Stretching

  • From time to time, a dog may stretch as part of its idle behavior.
