In this tutorial, we will show you How To Install Shaders on Minecraft PE (Pocket Edition). This tutorial comes in two parts: .MCPack and .Zip, .Rar.

.MCPACK file

This is the easiest shader format for Minecraft PE – just one tap and Minecraft does the rest. Here is how to install a shader in .mcpack format:

  • Download the shader pack in .mcpack format from a trusted source.
  • Open the folder that contains the downloaded file.
  • Tap the .mcpack file. The system will automatically send it to Minecraft PE.
    • If your phone cannot open the file, we recommend installing File Manager (Google Play).
    • Open File Manager, find the shader file, and tap to activate it. Easy!
  • Minecraft PE will launch and start importing the shader. You may see a black screen for a few seconds – wait until the import is done.
  • Inside Minecraft PE, create a new world (or edit an existing one), open Resource Packs, find the shader in “My Packs”, and activate it.
  • Open Settings → Video and turn on “Fancy Graphics” along with any other display options the shader requires.

.ZIP .RAR file

The other popular shader format for Minecraft Pocket Edition is ZIP or RAR. These are regular archives, so installation takes a little more time than MCPACK. Let’s jump right into the instructions:

  • First of all, make sure Minecraft Pocket Edition is installed and updated to a version the shader supports.
  • Download the shader archive you want. In the example below, we will install a shader in .zip format.
  • For the next steps you will need a good explorer so you can unpack the archive. We recommend File Manager (Google Play). Downloaded files are usually in the “Download” folder.
  • Using the explorer, unpack the downloaded archive. Extract it with the functions of the File Manager program.
  • Open the folder created after extracting the archive.
  • A shader pack usually contains 1 folder inside (the resource pack with shader files). Some advanced shaders may include 2 folders.
  • Highlight the shader folder and tap Copy.
  • Open the following folder: /games/com.mojang/. Use File Manager: open internal storage, games folder, then com.mojang folder. Here are the files related to Minecraft PE. Full list:
    • behavior_packs – Behavior packs (not used for shaders).
    • minecraftpe – We do not recommend touching this folder.
    • minecraftWorlds – Your saved worlds.
    • resource_packs – Textures and shaders. Paste your shader folder here.
  • Open the resource_packs folder and paste the shader folder you just copied.
  • Launch Minecraft PE.
  • Open the Game World settings. Create a new world or edit an existing one.
  • Scroll down to Resource Packs. Find the shader in “My Packs” and tap the + icon to activate it.
  • Go to Settings → Video and enable “Fancy Graphics” (plus any other display options listed in the shader’s description).
  • Done! Enter the world and enjoy the new lighting.
