Remnants of the Past Mod (1.21.1) – Battle Your Own Ghost to Reclaim Lost Gear

Remnants of the Past Mod transforms player death into a challenging boss battle. When you fall in combat, a hostile echo appears wearing your gear and holding all your items and experience points with no despawn timer. Defeating this phantom is the only way to reclaim your belongings. The mod also introduces underground graves, wandering lost souls, and a multi-phase lich boss to face.
