Species Mod (1.20.1, 1.19.2) adds fictional mobs to the game, with cool and unique functions. Have you ever wanted more fictional, made-up mobs that fit well inside the base game? Species is a mod that does exactly that! Reda, Ninni, Noon, GLaDOS edition and Bornulhu have joined forces to come up and add all sorts of creatures and critters made with tender love and care.

Features:

WRAPTOR

  • A large, neutral avian found in warped forests, these creatures can be spotted donning glamorous turquoise coats, and with the right care, can prove to be a reliable source of feathers.
  • Beware their tempers, however, as wild Wraptors will burst into a flurry of rage if their plumage happens to be shorn off completely, or if faced with a wither skeleton, which they take a particular dislike to.
  • Wraptors can also be spotted nesting in a new structure found around the biome – Wraptor Coops. These coops can give the player access to loot such as Wither Skeleton Skulls, and also a new resource – Wraptor Eggs.
  • Wraptor Eggs are obtainable either through coops or by breeding wraptors using Shroomlights. They are placeable and must be hatched using brute force, by repeatedly dropping an anvil on them.
  • Attempting to pick up a cracked wraptor egg with a hoe will drop a new food item – Cracked Wraptor Eggs. Eating this can grant players a new effect – Wither Resistance, a reference to how Wraptors themselves are also immune to wither damage. Perhaps it’s due to their resemblance to cockatrices…

BIRT

  • A natural oddity, these hard-bodied… birds (?) can be found sparsely in hollowed-out birch trees composed of multiple nest blocks known as Birt Dwellings. They can be occupied by three birts at any moment, similar to a bee-hive.
  • Birts have an unorthodox method of communication, during which they send remote signals to each other by using an elongated antenna that rests on top of their head.
  • If birts reside in a dwelling, they will return to it every night in order to lay eggs inside it. Birt Eggs can be used as projectiles, either to hatch more birts if they hit a block, or to concuss enemies from afar, as the hardened-metallic exterior of these eggs provides a short stunning effect ( Birted ) that immobilizes the target upon contact.

LIMPET

  • Avid spelunkers may catch a glimpse of these bipedal, subterranean mollusks, called limpets. They have tough shells that sparkle with minerals, based on their spawn altitude and biome. These can come as Coal, Amethyst, Lapis-Lazuli, Emerald, or even Diamond deposits.
  • These shells are very resistive, however, and easily deflect player-inflicted damage lower than 12 points.
  • Fortunately, pickaxes are sharp enough to crack through these shells and can be used to harvest the minerals from limpets. Unfortunately, the limpets seem to know this too and will retreat into the safety of their shell when approached with a pickaxe.
  • Hitting a limpet with a pickaxe will cause its shell to begin to crack, but it will also initiate the limpet to panic and scurry off, requiring you to actively chase it. Pickaxes will be put into cooldown mode between each hit, and the shell requires multiple shots before breaking. When broken, the deposit will drop its respective mineral.
  • The shell is affected by Fortune and Silk Touch enchantments, as they increase the number of minerals dropped when broken and partially preserve the shell respectively.

ROOMBUG

  • Making themselves at home in the warm expanses of savannas and badlands biomes, Roombugs are delightful, drowsy arthropods that can be tamed with Honeycombs and healed using Bottles of Honey. Tamed Roombugs can be ridden by the player or commanded to sit down, during which they may loudly doze off to sleep.
  • Sleeping roombugs can be mounted by entities, and can move around with mounted entities on their back. Shift + Right Click allows the player to forcefully dismount entities that are riding a roombug. This introduces a quick, convenient way to relocate entities.

DEEPFISH

  • These translucent, bioluminescent organisms have evolved in complete darkness, as their natural habitat is Deepslate-Level Aquifers. They are easily distinguished by their enchanting, yet melancholic cries, and they will often school together and form choirs.
  • They have a remarkable appearance, as their internal system, completely visible through their outer membrane, pulsates with bursts of light. They are rare mobs, and players looking to keep them in aquariums can collect them in a bucket.
