Adaptive Tooltips Mod (1.20.2, 1.20.1) – Highly Configurable Tooltip Rendering
Vanilla tooltips are not very smart: this mod aims to fix that. In vanilla, there are a lot of situations (especially when modded) where you just cannot read a tooltip due to it being just too long to fit on the screen. There are many solutions! AdaptiveTooltips aims to dream up and implement these solutions into Minecraft for a vanilla-like tooltip experience without the frustrations.
Adaptive Tooltips Mod (1.20.2, 1.20.1) offers multiple methods to prevent tooltips from being cut off by screen bezels.
Features:
Text Wrapping
There is one very obvious fix to tooltips going off-screen horizontally: text wrapping! If a line is too long to fit on your screen, AdaptiveTooltips intelligently splits it into however many necessary, using words as cut-offs to not interrupt your reading.
There are multiple methods of wrapping:
- Screen Width: Wraps lines with a maximum width of the screen (minus 15 pixels). Best paired with the
Bedrock Centering
option. - Remaining Width: Allows tooltip lines to fill the remaining space until the tooltip reaches the screen’s edge, choosing either the left or right side based on which requires less wrapping.
- Half Screen Width: Limits tooltip width to half of the screen.
- Smart: Wraps lines that are significantly longer than others, with a hard limit of three-quarters of the screen width.Text Wrapping
- A straightforward solution to tooltips extending off-screen horizontally is text wrapping. When a line is too long to fit on your screen, AdaptiveTooltips intelligently splits it into multiple lines, using word boundaries as cut-offs to ensure uninterrupted reading.
- Available wrapping methods include:
Prioritize Tooltip Top
- Surprisingly, even Mojang overlooked this feature. By default, tooltips taller than the screen are limited at the bottom edge, not the top, causing the (often less important) bottom text to be visible instead of the top. This option ensures the top of the tooltip is prioritized.
Bedrock Centering
- This feature aligns Java Edition with Bedrock Edition by automatically centering tooltips that are too long to fit on either the left or right side of the screen. For the best experience, pair this with
Screen Width Text Wrapping
.
Align To Corner
- As a fallback, this feature places the tooltip in one of the four corners of the window if other methods fail to keep it on-screen. The corner is chosen to minimize obstruction of the mouse cursor.
Tooltip Scrolling
- AdaptiveTooltips introduces smooth scrolling for tooltips, both vertically and horizontally, with fine-tuned animations. Unlike previous Fabric attempts with buggy edge cases, this implementation resolves all issues. The mod intelligently distinguishes between different tooltips and discards scrolling data when necessary. You can customize scroll direction and sensitivity.
Transparency Modification
- To prevent tooltips from obstructing inventory items, this feature allows you to adjust tooltip transparency, letting you balance visibility and clarity.
YACL-style GUI Tooltips
- Mimics the tooltip positioning style of
YetAnotherConfigLib
by placing tooltips above or below a hovered button.
