Auto Repair Kits Mod (1.20.1) is here to help avoid situations like these. This mod basically adds kits that automatically repairs your gear while they are equipped in your inventory. The repair kits come in different variants, and their tooltips list out materials that can be used to recharge them. Once charged, points from the kit will be transferred to the durability of gear in your inventory.
