Hostility Level (Hostile)
A wither boss is a hostile mob. The term mob is short for mobile and is used to refer to all living, moving creatures in the game such as chickens, creepers, and wither bosses. Because a wither boss is a hostile mob, it will attack you in Survival mode but not Creative mode.
Health Points
A wither boss is a boss mob which has a purple health bar that goes down as it takes damage. When the purple health bar is depleted, the wither boss will die.
In Minecraft, a wither boss has 150 hearts for health. This gives a wither boss 300 health points (because 1 heart = 2 health points). To kill a wither boss, you need to inflict 300 points of damage to the wither boss.
Where to Find Wither Bosses
A wither boss will not spawn naturally in the game, but you can build a wither boss yourself. The materials that you need to build one are found in the Nether.
If you haven’t been to the Nether, you need to build a nether portal to take you to the Nether. When you walk through a nether portal, it will transport you between the Overworld and the Nether. This is what a nether portal looks like:

TIP: If you spawn or summon a wither boss close to the ground, it will break blocks around it. A wither boss will also attack all mobs nearby.

A wither boss is armed with wither skeleton skulls.
Attack Method
As an attack, the wither boss throws wither skeleton skulls at you which can give you the Wither effect. It also attacks all mobs nearby and destroys all blocks in its path.
Drops
When you kill a wither boss in Minecraft, it will drop a nether star.
Make sure you pick up any dropped items before they disappear. They are useful and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.
Experience Points
As you play the game, you will gain experience. The most common way to gain experience is by killing mobs. When a mob is killed you will see tiny green and yellow balls appear and move towards you.
These orbs represent experience points. When you kill a wither boss, you will gain 50 experience points.
