Hostility Level (Hostile)

A stray is a hostile mob. The term mob is short for mobile and is used to refer to all living, moving creatures in the game such as chickens, creepers, and strays. Because a stray is a hostile mob, it will attack you in Survival mode but not Creative mode.

Health Points

In Minecraft, a stray has 10 hearts  for health. This gives a stray 20 health points (because 1 heart = 2 health points). To kill a stray, you need to inflict 20 points of damage to the stray.

Where to Find Strays

In Minecraft, you can find strays in Snow biomes. They spawn in light levels of 7 or less. Strays will spawn in the dark, usually at night. Once a stray has spawned in the dark, it can not survive in the daylight. When the sun comes out, the stray will burst into flames and take damage until it dies.

Weapon

The stray is armed with a bow and Arrows of Slowness as a weapon.

Attack Method

In Minecraft, a stray can shoot Arrows of Slowness at you from a distance making it tougher to kill. If a stray hits you with an arrow, you will get the Slowness effect.

Drops

When you kill stray in Minecraft, it may drop one of the following items: bones or arrows.

Make sure you pick up the dropped items before they disappear. These are useful and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.

Experience Points

As you play the game, you will gain experience. The most common way to gain experience is by killing mobs. When a mob is killed you will see tiny green and yellow balls appear and move towards you.

These orbs represent experience points. When you kill a stray, you will gain 5-7 experience points.

Stray during the Day

A stray can not survive in daylight. When exposed to light, the stray will burst into flames and eventually die.

A stray will try to protect itself from the sun by standing under a tree during the day or going into water. If it gets cloudy and rains or it turns to night, a stray will be fine and not burn.
